    Mice bait

Most of the time we'll just put some peanut butter on the trigger. They seem to like it.

    Urea

Couldn't agree with you more but would add that you need to start every hay feeding season with a good test of your available hay. And don't be negative toward utilizing some urea in whatever supplementation you use. Urea improves rumen function and increases the amount of the lower quality...

    Twins

A pretty good read on affect of nutrition on pregnancy rates, incidence of multiple births etc. Protein, Energy, Vitamins and Minerals are all extremely important. Not the high incidence of twins in dairy cattle with their extremely nutrient dense diets compared to beef breeds...

    Vigortone mineral

A tip of the hat to you. Love folks who are passionate about their work and stand behind the products they sell and when they get a new customer they tell the new customer "you also get me....give me a call anytime".   Best wishes !!

    Vigortone mineral

Really??? Use to know a good nutritionist that worked out of that plant. Mr. Tim Smith. Haven't heard from him in several years but always thought the world of him. He may be retired by now. We're all getting a bit "long in the tooth". I'm still curious as to how much yeast is included...

    Vigortone mineral

FH in short I simply can't afford it. It's outrageously high down here even though at one time there was a plant up around Weatherford, Texas. I can't complain about the Purina. 100% of the zinc, manganese, copper and cobalt are chelates (amino acid complexes) and the cattle consume it at...

    Vigortone mineral

Vigortone has always had an excellent reputation for making high quality mineral backed by a lot of research and excellent quality control, however, I'm wondering if they have ever moved forward and began using any chelates in their mineral mixes instead of just the same old oxides and sulfates...

Study: Red Meat GOOD For You

My grandmother died at almost 101. Red meat, hog lard and Garrett's snuff killed her. :lol2:

    Beef Check-Off Question

You can "promote" all you want. People buy what they can afford which is most often chicken.

    2013 Heifer Calves

What kind of breeding do you do OT? Timed AI or what? Just saw where you said they run on huge acreage of gov't land with cattle from several other operations and wondered how in the world you would know which bull bred which cow.

Ethanol byproducts could increase polio in cattle

The very article you posted recently quoting the gentleman from Land O' Lakes explained what is is, where it comes from and how to feed it. Also gave warnings for the uninformed and self educated. Maybe you should go back and read it. No where did he say "Do not feed to commerical and/or dairy...

Ethanol byproducts could increase polio in cattle

Many cow/calf operations as well as a huge majority of dairy operations that feed a TMR feed corn gluten feed and/or DDG every day of the year. As mentioned even by the Land O' Lakes rep. at the bottom of the article "management" is a key factor. When fed properly CGF and DDG are not fed as...

Are There Any Fine Minds Left Outthere?

Even Barney would go along with that. He loves anybody that's "hung". :lol2:

    Seasonal Milking= Induced Calving?

BarBar that's how I would do it anyway. Not to many in the US do the seasonal dairying....most want those barns running 24/7 if possible. Dowtime could be a great time for haying operation as well as barn repairs and other maintenance things that often are put off. And all the cows get their dry...

    Bulls- High forage ration?????

Technically there's a huge difference between roughage and forage. Forage as we think of it dang sure don't come in a bag or a creep feeder.

    Feeding oats to calves.

What's the bad taste everyone has in their mouth with Monsanto??? The oats should be fine. Probably better even than the larger oats as they're small for a reason....they're not fully developed so you'll be feeding more oat hulls and less of the actual meat. Protein will be a bit lower but fiber...
