    Pictures from the Desert

I always enjoy your photos H. I'm sure glad your country is getting moisture and congrats on your new grass lease. We've finally received some rain here but it's been hit or miss. One pasture has been hit every time and the gramma grass is the best I've ever seen and other pastures are just...

    A Smoky June

WOW! That's great moisture. We've only had a few sprinkles here and lots of lightning & gusty winds. I finished baling 1st cutting yesterday morning, so I'm no longer torn between wishing the storms would pass by or really get with it. We ranchers are a crazy bunch. :o

    A Smoky June

We sure don't need that kind of nonsense. I hope they get caught and soon. The Oxcart Fire southeast of Poncha Pass blew up on Monday. It went from 120 acres to 1150 acres in a few hours. There are three spot fires that blew over the top to the other side. That would be around the Howard...

    A Smoky June

There is still no containment. It was just a horrible windy day yesterday, wind 20 to 25 and gusts to 40 mph. The fire is getting closer to both South Fork & Wagon Wheel Gap, but no structures have been lost yet. Try the link below for a fire perimeter map...

The comments coming out of the fire is that, they are seeing undocumented and unprecedented extreme fire behavior. Fire behavior that no one who is currently living has ever experienced...

    A Smoky June

The smoke plume from the Wolf Creek Pass fires spreading through the Valley. Mt. Blanca in the center background. Hay meadows in the foreground. Looking West down the lane to the county road. Cows out grazing knapweed. I was all set to get some Milestone herbicide and kill off the darn...

Thanks for the votes. :D I snapped this photo last summer at a grazing workshop. The exclosure, the man is resting on, showed about 25% usage... consumed by the elk. The permittee's cattle had not been rotated to this pasture yet.
