I was at Cattleman's Livestock Auction in Belen,NM today and the premium for weaned calves with a good health program was from $6 to $10 per cwt. I winter calves on alfalfa stubble and wheat. I think that the weaning and the health program is worth $30-$40 per head. You cannot be positive that the cattle have been given all the shots claimed, but if the sellers submit a list of what was given and the dates, you can be pretty sure that's what they got. When we process our own cattle , we keep a record of the date of initial and booster vaccines, specific meds(Cattlemaster, Titanium, pasturella, etc.) and include vaccine lot numbers and expiration dates. That satisfies the buyer.
I'm new to the forum.
