Ty traded a .243 for one yesterday-what a fun little gun to shoot. It just vaporizes gophers-the ammo is a little spendy but it's gonna be awesome to shoot beavers with and coyotes in a close in call set up.

I have a couple of em they are a supurb verman cartride. they work exellent on beaver, fox, etc. for coyotes ya better double lung em or head shoot em or you could be in for a merry chase. I love using them on gophers and prarie dogs, it is just amazing what a 17 grain bullet is capable of. have fun!

Limited usage for coyotes over 150 yrds and much wind, IMHO I would never traded a .243 that has more range on critters and more put down power for the little .17 HMR.

Fun for plinking and gophers and short range P-dogs but the hype far outweighs the facts on this cartridge.

Do you think it is better than a .22 LR? I have thought about buying a 17 for rabbits, gophers and things and dumping the 22 but the ammo costs a lot more compared to a 22.
