I bought an angus cross heifer 2 years ago from a great neighbor of ours who is getting along in age. He has a really nice set of cows and has herd records going back to 1961. I got some great Hereford semen from Coleman Herefords in Colorado and couldnt wait to AI that heifer last spring. Well, today she calved. :D

A pretty, brockle faced heifer calf. She has a red/brown tint. I am super excited and cant wait to see how she does. The heifer did a fine job getting her here and cleaned up early this morning.

I will always have the best bull i can buy as i feel quality cattle will always have a market. But AI'ing allows me to breed to a great hereford bull that throws wonderful maternal genetics without buying another bull. AND I GOT A HEIFER CALF!!!! :D

Being cooped up in a uterus makes a lil' sister need to stretch. :D

Fill 'er up! Nothing beats seeing a calf hooked up and loved by her mother.

Had to throw in one of little H's lamb project pictures. They are doing well and the kids love em'. Hopefully there might be a future grand champion market lamb looking at ya. But for sure, a summer of fun and work for 2 kids i know. Many thanks go out to Ned Jr. and his family. I talked to several of ya here on ranchers who run fine hereford cattle and ya'll helped a bunch. Thanks to you as well! :D

Congrats! It's starting to look like spring at your outfit, baby animal wise that is.

We're about a week away from calving here and I'm ready. It's my favorite time of the year.

how many more cows did you AI to Hereford H?

Lambs are doing great, tell the kids they can come up and lamb our ewes out in late April. :D

It seems that your fence building skills don't carry over to carpentry. The shed looks like something I may have constructed with parts of it being a little "overplumb". :P :D

Got to luv those blk brockle face cows they look great. I ai a few cows and heifers every year i dont do it myself i have an eldery friend that taught cattle breeding at the collage and he likes to keep his hand in it[ so to speak] so when i have a few to do i call him and he comes over we have pretty good luck so far. I agree ai sure is a good way to get great genetics in the herd it has brought my pb herd along greatly. Keep up the good work.

Many a year ago when we raised a lot of baldies and brockels- the wife and kids used to pick out the replacement heifers by the differing designs they had on their head- we always kept the coon eyes or those with a unique pattern...

I AI'd every heifer on the place to him. Which means just the one. :D I had big plans to pick up 4 or 5 head but sometimes plans go haywire. Kinda like my shed building is haywire. Thanks for noticing!   I believe the wind was blowing the day i built that shed and the sun might'a been in my eyes.

But to quote a good friend i worked with in the mines, "We aint building a blankety-blank piano here"! It keeps em' dry and turns the breeze.

if ya get short of feed, i'd be more than willing to take that pair off your hands. as far as the sheep go...i guess they're alright, i don't know much about sheep and i'd like to keep it that way. :D

Hey alright....a heifer!!! She looks great and I bet she'll make a great momma cow someday! Cute lambs!!! :D

You are distancing yourself from ever being able to take my world's smallest ranch title. :D :D :D To be honest, I traded all my cows in for that new fancy feed outfit I have.....I suppose that's kinda like spending your last dollar on a wallet.... :D :D :D

Nice pair. One of my bargain heifers calved on friday wonder what a $963 bred heifer is worth with a calf at side.

I think it would only be fair to give that heifer what she actually wants, to wonder around on the beautiful Canadian prairies. :???: I would gladly rescue her from a life long sentence of the high desert.

She looks great and so does the calf. Thats my type of cow. She should mature real nice. Are you just getting started calving or have you been at it for a bit?

Just getting started. I had an old cow have a set of bull calves yesterday as well. She raised twins last year with no worries. But today, a neighbor called needing a calf to graft on a heifer so we made a trade for one twin. Figured the old girl could use a tad less stress. :D I hope that heifer and her heifer calf stick around this place for the next 15 years. But if you wanta bring a nice heifer frrom your place and make the drive down' i'll trade with ya!

I gotta admit, I'D like to come wander those beautiful Canadian praries myself. :D

Your more than welcome to come at anytime. Only problem might be getting past BMR's place unnoticed. We might never see you again if you get tangled up with him. :help: :cowboy:
