2006 Chevrolet trucks

The dealer just delivered a 2006 Chevolet 2500 4 door shortbox 4X4 pickup- with the 6000 Vortec engine- 4 speed HD auto transmission for Grandma to try out for the next week...And its dark red, which probably means she will want it :roll:

Question- anyone had any problems or know goods or bads about that same type of beast...We have a 2005 with the 8100 engine that sucks down gas like an open bottomed pit- but can really pull a trailer...Only problem we've had with that has been some brake problems so far...Will use it for most the heavy pulling...
 
I only buy Diesels, but I put on the miles. My Ford powerstroke has 460,000 miles on it.....That is because I have a great mechanic though. Mike Owen of powerhouse Diesel in Pendleton...before I found him, I was going to get rid of it at 150,000 miles. Wet from repairs to maintenance mode when i found him....I say this because it isn't always Ford, Doge or Chevy that makes the difference...

The diesel idea is out...I wouldn't mind getting one, but Grandma is deadset against any more diesels...We had a couple of GM's first ones- had a lot of troubles with them and she hates the smelly and oily fuel...So that takes care of that- gotta at least TRY to keep them happy sometimes... :lol:
 
I have an 05 diesel in a one ton dually... The wife just hates the thing for about twenty reasons.. Number one is the fuel and than the exhaust and than the sound of a diesel iddeling. I have to admit that for every day stuff I still prefer the gas engines.. I don't know why.. My folks bought a olds with a diesel engine back in the early 80's... That thing had so many troubles you should have seen their eyes bug and their nostrils flare when I told them I bought a diesel Chevy..... That darn car gelled if someone put a cup of icewater on the hood.
 
We had a 6000 vortec 3/4 4x4, but got rid of it because of terrible mileage. This was after trying dual exhaust, a k/n, etc. We are alot happier with the dodge cummins that replaced it, and gets TWICE the mileage.

I would love to have a Dodge cummins- but got turned off on the Dodge dealers backing up of their product...Don't have a local dealer, so bought a Dodge pickup in Great Falls (second new truck I bought from them)- when the tranny went out it was still under extended warranty and I had it hauled to the nearest dealer in Wolf Point (who we've also bought several vehicles from) ...They replaced the tranny, but would not honor the warranty- neither would the Great Falls dealer... We still have 5 Dodge trucks on the place but as we replace them with new GM's, I send a picture of the new GM to Dodge and the two dealerships....They probably could give a darn less, but it makes me feel good..... :twisted:
 
OT there should be some really good rebates on that '06 if
it is new. I've been looking and there can be up to $5000 in rebates
until July 5.
$1500 Down Payment Assistance (over July 5)
$1500 Mail in Rebate (I think anyone can use this if they ask for it and it is over July 5th too)
$2000 Over Age Rebate (meaning the vehicle has to have been on
the lot before April 1.)

I'm looking for one that has been on the lot since before April 1.

Yeah- thats what we understand...She's been looking at a couple outfits, last couple months- but this morning the dealer brought out the one she liked best and said that they have a 72 hour special (thru July 5) on the old ones on the lot-- I haven't got the figures yet as I was out swathing when he showed up- but Grandma said he told her now was the time he could give the best deal :roll:

Sure drives and rides nice- since we are rained out haying (3/4 inch on the river- only .2 up north) we took a cruise around by the lake and had dinner... Looks like this storm was really spotty as town says 1/4 inch and over toward Nashua it was dry- but at the lake its a mud hole....
 
Dave Smith in Kellog. Idaho offered me 72 months no interest and had the price down to $40,000 on a Diesel crew Cab with Leather Seats. Payments were like $576...Very tempting, but I like the no payments I have on my Powerstroke too much, LOL,

Dodge Products tended to fall apart up here in the North Haymaker....Not too many guys I knew would buy a Dodg until it had the Cummins. Then the worry was it would fall apert all around the motor....


Well, I think the folks that bought the Cummins were in many cases the ones that also put miles on them. miles generally equates to pavement, pavement equate to an easier life for a truck,

The knock on the dodges up here is they fall apart around the engine... Gas or diesel... Of course, it seams that no matter what truck some people by it falls apart on them... Hmmmm, maybe the driver instead of the truck?
 
The driver has a lot to do with the truck falling apart, but the Dodges do suffer more collateral damage.

One reason is they pull so well, guys tend to over haul with them.

I have a neighbor that hauls 11 big rounds on a 20 ft trailer pulled by the cummins. It pulls it fine, but has had times where the bales are far heavier than he realized. Once they lost the tail section of the bale rack and 3 bales and it still felt heavy, the bales were 2200 pounds each. That gets tough on a truck.

I wind up with lots of weight on my chevy, but it is on road not off like bales, and my truck is a 1 ton not the 3/4.
 
Oldtimer I just traded a 2000 Dogde on a 2006 Chevy Silverado Work truck package [ the only luxury item it has is air conditioning with split comfort zones]. It has the 6.0 vortec and pulled my horse trailer loaded down like a dream yesterday. It is an extended cab with 4 doors(not the crew cab) long box with the five speed. I paid 23,500 off the lot in Butte. Time will tell how it will stand up but I sure like it so far. The first tank through it from here to Miles City I got 14.5 mpg but I was running 90 without realizing it because it drove so much nicer than the Dodge. Wish it had cruise on that trip lol. It has the 4:10 rear end in it so when I drove it 65 I got about 17 mpg.

I hated the Dodge as it beat me to death running around the ranch and had rattled it self apart. In two and a half years and forty thosand miles it had depreciated over thirteen thosand. I have the next six years to remind myself once a month to never buy a Dodge again.
 
I agree that the Dodge can tend to fall apart around the engine, I love it though when I am loaded down with horses. I dont love the fact that I had to replace the tranny last week to the tune of $22OO. But in the long run I dont miss a $700 payment. So I will probably drive it till it dies. Or it beats itself to death whichever comes first :lol:
 
Thanks cowboyup- so far I haven't found any real negatives... I think the Dodges have a little more room inside the cab (especially head room, so I don't bump my hat) but I have to agree with you on depreciation...I don't know how the diesels are but the Dodge gas pickups depreciate terrible once you drive them off the lot...And Dodge parts are about double those of GM parts...One year I put 2 auto transmissions in pickups- Cost $2000 for parts and labor on the 97 Chevy- $3300 for the 97 Dodge...

We've put a couple hundred miles on this outfit just running around this weekend- gas mileage doesn't seem bad, except I screwed up her computing by sticking some in it out on the place without knowing how much :roll: this has a lot of extras that I don't need ($$$$), but that Grandma really likes--I think Grandma is sold- especially since she found out the color is metallic sports red (not purple like I called it)...Will all depend on what kind of dealing mood the dealer is in on Wed.....

I went to the Dodges years ago because they had the more power and then they had heavier frames to handle the Bale beds... Many were having the GM's and especially the Fords frame break right behind the cab if they were using the bale bed to pick or feed a lot of bales-- had to have them reinforced to work...But now since both Ford and GM have built a much heavier frame I haven't heard of any problems- and GM has finally got some gas engines with some power... That 8100 we have will flat pull anything- except by a gas station :lol: ......
 
We are on our third Dodge one-ton duallys and love them.
Mr. FH has hauled alot of loads with them as all have pretty much
been steadily hooked up to a trailer of some kind. We traded this
last time ONLY because the new cummins are so much quieter.

Our Vigortone area manager has gone through 5 Chevy 1-ton diesels in
5 years. He couldn't keep the transmissions in most of them. One vibrated terrible and GM could never find the problem. He has
gone to a 3/4 ton now and seems happy with it. We'll see how it
holds up.

I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe that I love. Thought with all the rebates
that now would be the time to trade, but haven't found one I like as
well as mine. Now that's something!!
 
I drive a dodge diesel that just turned over 350,000 and the body is starting to get a bit shook but no more so than Fords and Chevy's that work. I pull a cattle trailer a lot, we've got lots of rough ground and roads and I tend to drive hard and fast. I was a Chev man for years but they let me down bad.......light tinny trucks with a crappy suspension and drive line that couldnt take any rough stuff at all! As for Fords I never could hack their poor mileage and some of them were very unreliable. I'll stick with the Cummins and I guess that I'll have to get used to making truck payments again in the near future!
