Temp was up in the 70's this afternoon- so I took a little tour around the valley on the 4 wheeler to enjoy it...

Few more fighting over the lic tub and getting a drink..

Closeup of some lazy bulls enjoying the sun- as you can see their is no grass coming in this country yet....

A couple of the bulls that were on the other side of the road came to visit as I was on my way back...

The mighty Milk River- many times this time of the year it is bank full or a mile out of its banks- and today it almost looked like it was running backwards....This lack of moisture is getting folks nervous....

Thanks for posting OT, hope you get some moisture soon. It was nearly 70F here today too, although it was so windy you almost wouldn't have known it. At least the fields are baring off. Of course, my dugout (for house water) overfilled and washed out..... but its still holding enough til things get thawed out good enough for a good fix.
What kind of trees are those along the river?

Hey, another question for you. My neighbour Buck was over today talking about his life in your neck of the woods and cows and such. He claims that a cows teeth are often about wore out by the time they are 8 or 9 yrs old from grazing that hardgrass down close and picking up sand. Any similar experiences?

Looks like you enjoyed a nice day, Oldtimer. It was warm here, too, but probably only got up into the high 50's. The wind didn't blow for a change, which was wonderful. The only problem was, it was hard to stand up because a person gets so used to leaning into the wind. It also seemed funny not cocking my head to one side to keep my hat on. We'd best not get complacent, though, because these utopian conditions never last for very long. :? It is fun to enjoy them while they are here. :-)

I thought you folks up there were doing ok for moisture, OT.

Sorry to hear that people are nervous...as are the folks in SE Montana too. I hope it isn't a huge spring storm that brings moisture tho.

I think we're sitting fair for moisture for grass still--Mainly we need some moisture for water holes...No runoff this spring at all- and the water holes/creeks are all low or dry....I was talking to the manager of the sales ring today and she said they're already getting cows/heifers brought to town because water holes are dry- and even wells are going dry....Predicting 80 degrees tomorrow...

I got the pretty near annual letter from BLM on Saturday reminding folks of the conditions and to make plans for reduced rates/cancelled pastures...But I've seen those quite regular- and then get good rain in May and June and take care of the problem...

50% chance for Tuesday :D

Silver- those are mostly Cottonwood trees- some Ash, but the big ones are Cottonwood...

And he is right about the cows teeth being worn out by the sand and trying to get the shortgrass...And lots of broken/shed teeth in the rocky/gravelly country- which could make a broken mouth cow still quite young sometimes - because if it has one tooth missing the vet just calls it a broken mouth... Quite a few of the ranchs plan on culling their cows by the time they are 10 mostly because of those reasons...Some mouth their herd each year and sell them when the teeth get worn or broken...

Gets worse in the drought years- which anymore seems to almost be every year...

We got to about 70 today but no sun at all. Weird day. We're really dry too OT,not a drop of moisture in any of our water holes.

But the weather boys say blizzard Tues....crossin fingers.
