I started feeding cattle in the '70s and bought cattle for so little money it was unbelievable. I don't even want to say what they were costing until I hear from a few others who were buying cattle in the mid to late seventies.

I just know that we have never made that kind of money in the cattle business since then. It seems the whole market was in a long upswing until about '80 and then things went south with only a few good spells mixed in since then.

What were some of your situations and recollections from back then?

We used to buy little herfords or angus calves 250-300Lbs and put them in the south end of the barn for the winter. Nobody wanted them in Dec. Give them some TLC and sell them in the spring. It would take 4 to 1 to make that kind of money now
