It's good to know we're all cold together on ranchers this week, and even better we're 20 above, nice pen and ink of the ponies.

A neighbor lady, Joan Buckles, did that drawing. The horses were a couple paints that Dad and I had at the time. Both horses were born in 1970, and we bought them both in 1974. When my horse (on the right) was 18 years old, I traded him straight across for a two-seated buggy that we still have and use occasionally. Dad kept his horse until he was 20 and sold him for a thousand dollars. Joan does great artwork. One of her paintings of four harnessed Percherons graces the cover of the December 2008 issue of TODAY'S HORSE magazine (www.todayshorse.net).

My little thing is showing a "balmy" 5 above zero, but who knows what the wind chill is. The front slammed through here around 10 this morning and the temp dropped a good 25 degrees in an hour.

Thanks for the pics, Soapweed. Hope your herd and everyone else's come through this in one piece.

Didn't see any sun-dogs here today but it is 32 below F as I type this, plus enough air movement you can feel it. My trusty 7400 started at the meadow I am hauling hay from and I made a load after having a late day due to a low tire on the feed tractor. Forecast for here is cold and colder for the rest of the week.

Looks like we're all in this together, stay warm and work safe Ranchers.
Remember, every day is one closer to NEXT winter. :D

Yep, I get to use a trusty JD 7400, and I won't part with it for anything :D . Jim bought a Kubota M125X, and when the dealer asked how I liked it, I told him it sure wasn't a JD... he said it wasn't priced like one either :-) . No thanks, I can spot junk when I see it, and I'm not going to be the one running it when it craters  . Hopefully I'll be proved wrong :D .

At any rate, maybe these cold temps will slow up the pine beetle :D .

I used a Kubota to feed a neighbors cows back a few years. He fell and broke a hip and never really did get back at it. Fed from mid Jan to turn-out, calved his 120 Great White Sharks on top of our own and ended up putting 1600 bales up on shares at his place. The Kubota was not my shade of Green but it was a dependable machine.

Glad to hear you got to use a dependable machine, this one has had a few troubles, but for the money, I guess it was an okay purchase. My preference would've been to buy a used JD for the same money, but the dealer was running a good financing deal. It just seems to be cheaper built, and I'd be the one running it if it ever fell apart :D .
