We had a pretty fair sized crew for the occasion.

I am not used to having so much good volunteer help.

It was a beautiful spring morning for the drive.

We even had a little mechanized help.

These heifers will be on an irrigated pasture this summer.

Later in the day, my cousin/friend and I went on a Polaris Ranger pasture tour, scouting out a route for him to drive cattle to pastures that he is renting for the summer.

He and I put right at 34 miles on the Ranger that afternoon, and it took an even two gallons of gas to fill it again when we got back. Guess that figures out to 17 miles per gallon.

It was unintended, and it was soon down where it needed to be. :wink:

Is that the bunch of heifers you were going to AI? Are they already bred?

It's a lot greener there than here, but it is coming. The 10 inches of snow we had night before last is gone and gave us a good shot of irrigation.

Did you get your windmill back up?

No, it was another bunch of heifers that we were going to AI. The neighbor that had planned to do the AIing ran out of feed, so we decided to bring them home early (May 1st), turn them on grass, and buy a few more low birthweight bulls. We hauled bulls up to that bunch on the evening of May 19th, and hauled bulls to the heifers on irrigated pasture last evening, May 20th.

Did you get your windmill back up?

Not yet, but we don't need water there until next calving season. I'll hire a professional windmill man to do the job, but first I need to check more windmills to see if his services are needed anywhere else.

Soapweed, Your picture of 4 wheeling in the high country. Well, how high is your country? I don't have an allotment on Forest Service or BLM but the guys that do get pretty 8000 ft or better. My ranch sits at 4000 ft which, explains our short seasons.
