I love the brand. Those calves are definitely moving in the right direction. Is it a half diamond bar or can you call it an arrow pointing the way? Do the cows have a different brand? I appreciate that your cattle never seem to be on bare ground.

We call our brand the "spearhead," and our ranch is the Spearhead Ranch. The cows all have the same brand. We have it on the left shoulder, rib, and hip, but brand all the home-raised cattle on the hip. Some purchased cattle get a rib brand, depending on where the brand of the previous owner is located. It is a simple one-iron brand to put on, and it shows up pretty good. It was give to Peach Blossom and me by her step-father. His first wife's father originally brought the brand to Cherry County in the late 1800's.

Nice pictures as always. That brand sticks on really nice and points the way to good prices this fall. I should move to Nebraska and register a double spearhead! Don't blame me cause my cows have three or four calve each, and yours start going dry!

So what is the secret to your weight loss, Soapweed? I could stand to lose a few pounds.

No carbs, no sugar, no pop,

lots of beef, fried eggs, cheese, bacon, green leafy veggies, sugar-free drinks, and sugar-free ketchup. plus a rigorous excercise program of typing fast when on Ranchers.Net. :-)

Great pics Soap, thanks for sharing. Gee, now that you've got all skinny you look much younger, and less like a cradle robber

Hey Soapweed, hope you got all your cattle "tucked in". Weather's kind of raw here too, but nothing like a good old prarie blizzard. Best of luck in the next few days.

We tried to get them all into protected places today. Right now the wind is hard out of the southeast, and it is drizzling. It is difficult getting cattle situated for when the wind turns. Tomorrow morning through Friday morning we are to get 7-9 inches of snow, with 20-30 mile per hour winds out of the northwest. Hopefully it won't be real bad right off the get-go in the morning, so we can make a few more adjustments.

:gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: Man, I'm gonna get my map out. You just gotta be closer to the arctic circle than me. Good luck Soap.

Soapweed you have motivated me to go on that diet. This is my third day. I would like to lose 25 lbs. I also noticed your family portrait on the wall. A very handsome couple and a couple neat boys.

Congratulations, Soap, on photo's, good looking family, diet, AND finding sugar free ketchup!

Isn't that stuff great? I never liked ketchup, or any other sweet/sour flavor, but thought it would be better for grandkids to have sugar free. It is great! Almost as good as Chili Sauce, which probably does have some sugar in it. Hard to see why people and companies spoil good food with unnecessary sugar! At least more than a touch. Some great Danish cooks I know use just a teaspoon ful in many dishes to great effect with no harm.

Now, do you suppose we could make sugar free ketchup when all the tomatoes ripen next summer????

MRJ hope this helps

Sugar Free Catsup Recipe

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon Sugar Twin
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/4 cup tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:

Dissolve sweetener in vinegar. Stir in tomato paste and seasonings. Cover and store in refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

Makes 1/2 cup

Homemade Tomato paste

Ingredients:
8 quarts peeled, cored, chopped tomatoes
1 1/2 cup chopped sweet red peppers
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon salt
1 clove garlic (optional)

Directions:

Combine first four ingredients and cook slowly 1 hour. Press through a fine sieve; add garlic, if desired. Continue cooking slowly until thick enough to round up on a spoon, about 2 1/2 hours. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Remove garlic and bay leaves. Pour, hot, into hot half-pint jars, leaving 1/2-inch head space. Adjust caps. Process 45 minutes in boiling water bath.

Makes 9 half pints
