The smoke plume from the Wolf Creek Pass fires spreading through the Valley. Mt. Blanca in the center background. Hay meadows in the foreground.

Sad sight! Looks the same on this side of the Sangre's. You must not be too far from the sand dunes maybe around the Baca Grande?

We are actually getting some ash here. Thank the Lord they nare not embers.

News says South Fork has little chance of being saved. 300+ residents fleeing as I type this, the fire is bearing down on that little town.

I just heard that also. Sad deal. They said the fire is now 2-3 miles away from South Fork with no way to stop it.

Visibility of about a mile here now due to smoke.

Man i feel for you all. Wouldnt wish fire and drought on my worst enemy. Try and keep your chin up. Praying for rain and for folks to stay safe ahead of and fighting the fire.

Some friends have cabins near the river at Wagon Wheel gap is that South Fork fire heading in that direction?

Yes, unfortunately all of that area from South Fork, Wagon Wheel Gap and up toward Creede is all in danger. The comments coming out of the fire is that, they are seeing undocumented and unprecedented extreme fire behavior. Fire behavior that no one who is currently living has ever experienced, perhaps fire conditions that have not occurred for 100's of years.

The stories I heard around the firehouse this evening... do not bode well for South Fork. I'm just praying everyone evacuated when they had the chance. The town was ordered to be evacuated by ten o'clock this morning.

Those are the real Smokey Nosed Charolais! The Knapweed seems to be agreeing with them. We can smell the smoke clear out here. We have as much smoke here as the Hayman or Waldo Canyon did and more than the Black Forest fire sent our way. Almost as hazy as your pics. Hayguy and Gcreek, we sure would appreciate it if ya can figure out how!

We were out west of Pueblo over the weekend. The smoke rolled in there, about 4 on Saturday, and was thick enough that you couldn't see a half mile away. I kept going to the top of the hill, expecting to see flames. Around my father-in-laws place, there isn't even any weeds that are green, but I'll still bet it will burn!! and he isn't prepared at ALL>

Any news on Wagon Wheel Gap or Creede?

There is still no containment. It was just a horrible windy day yesterday, wind 20 to 25 and gusts to 40 mph. The fire is getting closer to both South Fork & Wagon Wheel Gap, but no structures have been lost yet.

Try the link below for a fire perimeter map.

The word is they found three places where someone set hot coals out in the very dry "Wet Mountains" just east of me. I sure hope they catch whoever is doing it!

We sure don't need that kind of nonsense. I hope they get caught and soon.

The Oxcart Fire southeast of Poncha Pass blew up on Monday. It went from 120 acres to 1150 acres in a few hours. There are three spot fires that blew over the top to the other side. That would be around the Howard area. Pretty calm today but hot, hopefully they were able to get some containment there.

In the 90's an arsonist started burning cabins and anything associated with ranching. He/she would light road flares and lean them against a structure and flee. 9 cabins and structures were lost. One cabin almost burned but the flare frell over and it only got the weeds going and part of the porch. We all started packing cameras and rifles but never caught anyone. I will never forget the sherrif telling my dad that is we caught the arsonist we should tie him to a tree and call him. He said he would go pick he/she up in a week! Still ticks me off some low-life would puposely start fires. Hope ya'll get rain soon and lots of it.

I thought that smoke looked close to Howard. I sure hope that hurricane down in Mexico brings us some real moisture.

Sounds like it wasn't a arsonist that put the coals out after all. The man that did it sent a big long letter of apology to the local tribune last week. He said he thought the coals were cold.

Great news!!! We got around 3 inches of rain over the last two days.
