The AAA came out with a revised policy for known genetic defect carriers ....This one is a combined policy on AM & NH. The major points are included in the following segment:

" ... it expands the window of opportunity in which members can continue to register heifers that are known carriers of these defects. The "sunset" provision for registration of AM-carrier heifers is now December 31, 2011. The "sunset" provision for registration of NH-carrier heifers is June 14, 2012. Beginning January 1, 2010, AM-carrier bulls – and June 15, 2010, NH-carrier bulls – will not be eligible for registration."

I don't own any registered cattle of any breed but it looks to me like the AAA is dragging its feet just to keep registration numbers up. I wonder how long the AAA will be registering FCS and LHD carriers? maybe by 2020 they will be interested in cleaning things up.

MMI Genomics is now licensed to test for NH. It's about time they got it figured out so we can start the whoel thing over again testing.

No matter what what happens, people are getting wise enough to be shy of the Precision line of cattle if it doesn't say that they are AMF or NHF.

I have a couple calves that I need to check for NH, all my Precision line cattle have been AMF, hopefully it will be the same for NH. Most consignment sales are now requiring that cattle be tested for defects or they are not allowed. I need to get my NH results back so I can try to enter some calves that go back to Future Direction, via HA Program.

It's all going to work out in the end, those lines are going to survive the hardships of these bumps in the road.

One thing about it, the Angus and other breeds have gone through their genetic defec thing in the past, the big difference is that we didn't have the internet back then to make it such a big deal.

Yep Sic em Reds- and about the time you get done testing for NH they'll have the Fawn Calf test going- then the dwarf test- then the itty bitty syndrome test---just have them keep the DNA sample handy- and keep sending checks------------- :P

Luckily avoided both NH and AM-- anxiously awaiting the Fawn Calf results - and I may not get as lucky there as I know I have some that go back to Bando 598...

Well, at least the test for NH is a few dollars less!!!! A guy pretty much has to do it though if you have any of the bloodlines. The one that got me is E161 in some cows that I bought last fall.

Oh well, the calves were alive, so can at least get some value out of them if they come up positive. Or do like the big boys and convince myself they are something special and flush them crap out of them!!!!!!!
