Really neat pics there Katy! I havent seen bleeding hearts in a coons age :) Looks like a fun time was had by all :)

Interesting story of the sheep, fleece and minature horse shows. Congratulations on your success!

This sheep show reminded me a bit of my 4-H days. This is not sheep country, but there were a few sheep exhibited at our County Fair and we of course had to learn to judge them our selves. I don't think I've seen a sheep up close since then!

Nice pictures of the pretty flowers too.

Only Canadians would transform the local hockey rink into a livestock show pavilion! Do those horses have skates on or are they shod?

Wierd, until you said this I just thought EVERYONE used hockey arenas for there stock shows.Theres literally an arena in almost every little town in Alta, perfect place for stock shows...can't talk for Katy but in alot of arenas, sand is brought in and put on top of the cement, then straw ontop of it.

What do you guys use for stock shows :???:

Exactly my thought too, Mrs. Greg. There is more to life than hockey, and only one arena in town, so stock shows, indoor rodeos, and trade fairs all happen in the local hockey rink.

Most every place I can think of will turn a hockey arena into a whatever for anything.. Chicago uses the United center or Hockey, Basketball, Circusses Truck Ralleys, concerts and conventions.. You have to use the big building for something.. I know the old Chicago Stadium was used for a Rodeo or two but I don't know about the UC.. The one out here is used for everytthing too, including arena football. You spend the money you gotta get more use out of everything,,,

Down here, All the major stock shows have pavilions built that house all the critters, with a show ring somewhere in the building, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas/Ft Worth, etc. Built specifically for the Fairs. Houston uses their arena for basketball and football too where their rodeo is held, but all the stock show end of the deal is out in the big buildings. They have a pig barn, a sheep and goat barn, horse barn, cattle barn....on and on.
But...then again.....lol we don't have many hockey rinks around. The Gallaria Mall....has an ice skatin rink...does that count? LOL
As for county fairs......each county has County fair grounds, that's owned and maintained by the county, or fair associations. Ours has an arena, and barns to house all the show animals (but no hockey facility LOL).
Until readin this thread, I never would have thought to use a hockey rink for a critter show. LOL

Thanks all y'all!! And Cal i can not believe you said that!!!

Tap, I Was consentrating to hard, to be excited!! And i was trying to not get killed by that horned thing, she got my leg, and it was bleedin!! My other excuse is i didnt know peoples were taking pics!

Yeah, any shows, except horse shows, have been in a hockey rink, with sand or straw or shaving on top of the concrete. Where were were last weekend is the same place the Wheatkings first started playing! Horse shows, are in out door arenas, or a straight indoor riding arena... nope, wait we had our 4-H riding in a hockey rink! lol

Well i have to say they werent my sheep but they won cuz i was showin!

Well if you can't be excited, then you might as well be confident.

Thanks for the peep at the sheep show!

And congratulations, Katy. It is always interesting seeing in what kids enjoy involving themselves. This looks like a good hobby.

(It does seem a shame those horses will never grow up! )

Well, I must confess I'd really never heard of hockey till a couple of "Ontarioans" came along and married two of my sisters! Out here in Iowa we grew up with baseball and basketball and football. I've never had a pair of skates on these feet of mine. Now when all the bro-in-laws and neices and nephews come for Christmas, all they are concerned about is whether the ponds are frozen so they can skate and play hockey. Never joined them myself......I figger there are better things to do instead of slip slidin' around! Now in their mid 40's, the bro in laws are all moany and groany about stiff knees and stuff....."old hockey injuries"!!! Our stock shows are held in large pavillions with sand and or sawdust scattered about. Usually a few pigeons are flitting about over head as well! No scoreboards either.....or should I say ither!!
