My computer has been acting weird the last couple days. Yesterday morning it was locked up with no visible cursor so I pulled the plug to restart it. It would come back up to the point where my wallpaper was visible, but no screen icons. I did a ctrl-alt-del and there were no applications running, but under the performance tab, I noticed something that looked strange. Underneath the two graphs, there are readouts showing available memory and other things. Anyway, under Physical Membory, the total would stay the same, but the available memory was increasing. I got concerned about a virus or something maybe wiping out my hard drive causing the available memory to increase.

Anyway, I did finally get the thing to boot up, but I see that my total available physical memory is still constantly changing. Does anyone know if this is normal? The total available has gone down considerably since yesterday and now it appears to be fluctuating up and down.

Hi Richard, I know very little about the "insides" of puters but I know where to find answers. cnet.com/forums. They are like these forums. You need your system info(type of pc, processor, RAM(memory)anything you can think of to give the best description of your pc. Then tell them what is happening. I usually have an answer back in minutes. And you can set it to be notified. If you like, I can copy and paste your info into cnet and ask the questions for you on my account. See if I can get something to help. Also, if you want me to, send me your pc info. Heres how mine looks for example:

Operating System System Model
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
1.50 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

40.02 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
34.91 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

WDC WD400EB-00CPF0 [Hard drive] (40.02 GB)

The tekkies need the info in order to answer the questions :)

If you don't know what all is in you computer, I can show you a free program called Belarc that will run out a report telling you everything in your puter. Belarc.com. Free program. No hidden charges at all.

Let me know if you want me to help, be glad to. denise in Sams Valley OR
