We do have our charachters. One who is now in his 70s, second generation from a pioneer family still calls a barb wire gate a "mechanical barway". (rail gate that you slide and remove the poles from the opening)

Not wanting to cook after doing everything gcreek mentioned.

Seriously, I know a lot of people who get by fine using a
table. Our neighbor in W. Montana used one and we helped.
It worked good.
i decided a sereral years ago to try a table.......the thought has never crossed my mind since. we did get the job done with alot less help..that was about the only thing positive thing i got out of it. but i agree FH, there are many that use calf tables and wouldn't do it any other way....i say, whatever pulls your trigger. the table is handy to have around, we usually run 10-15 late calves ours every year, just my wife and i.....but that is the max. # of calves I can stand using a table. if i had a bale bed, i would like to try Soap's method...looks like a hell of a good idea to me.
per said:I also like the calf table. We can use green crew from the city and can maintain one a minute with 3 front enders and yes we have visitors and have time for talk and donuts as well. Not to take anything away from nords or the Soap gizmo as they look good as well. Calf table in the wrong hands is too much work. The key is never to tip it if possible and have as sliding gate at the back. With the lack of skilled horse folks and ropers around here, the traditional way would be way too time consuming. Our outfit does not do anything because that is the way it used to be or because we want to look like ranchers. It is run as a business along side other ventures without the emotional attachment to the lifestyle. That said, as has been noted before, what ever works for you for whatever reason works for me.
