Arm beds questions

I'm looking at purchasing a new crew cab srw f350, and was looking into putting a pivot style arm bed on it. We don't feed a lot of hay in winter time since our winters are really mild but I'm looking forward to all the other jobs these style beds are handy for.

Question 1: My current truck is a flatbed with 4 underbody boxes, can I put 4 underbody boxes on a long wheel base truck with a arm bed? I like the across the bed boxes but won't have room for my gas air compressor.

Question 2: When I add the arm bed, plus all my tools (in my 4 boxes hopefully), plus 2 5x6 round bales on the bed Ill be way over payload capacity for the truck. Do I need to put overloads or air bags on this truck? I'm not wanting to get a dual wheeled truck.

Question 3: I was looking at getting a butler bed since there is a dealer 40 miles from here. Are these beds built strong?? Next dealer is hydra bed 180 miles away.
 
Hydrabed sells a rubber block (between axle and frame) for when you overload. Is butler also made in sabetha? There is a knockoff made in sabetha (where they make hydrabeds) that looks pretty close. I heard it was a former hydrabed employee.

You will need to allow for the control valves and fuel fill. I could only get two boxes under the right side of my Hydra-bed.
 
I would get a set of air bags for your pickup. They don't cost that much and help stability when you are loaded so your springs don't bottom out and they are easy to adjust. I have hydrabed I have a tool box on both sides in front. The one on the left isn't that big though because of the valves on that side. I got the tool boxes from triple c so they know how big can fit. I also have two cpl tool boxes on top of the bed that are full.

Mr. FH always added air bags, wouidn't be without them...they make
a huge difference....
 
I can't answer about the bed but on the tool box if you need more put a pack rat box sideways and mount your compressor on top of it. Defending on the size of the compressor you can either mount to top of the box or if it's to heavy build a little frame that lets to set above the box by a inch or so.
 
Last I knew, you might want to stay away from a HosWel bale bed. Unless they found a way to keep the cylinders from coming up through the back of the bed. :shock:
 
I've decided to get a dual wheeled truck, any of you guys hauling 2 bales with a 36 in cake box on?? I'll be hauling the 2 bales down about 4 miles of county roads. Thanks for all the help.

yep happens a lot. My box is 28" and I haul two bales on a srw hydra. Bed is shorter than a dually bed I believe.
 
I am not sure if a cannon ball bale bed fits in this forum but the problems I have had with mine is the arms not releasing
We have a shop that installs and works on some of the brands of beds

the problem with mine had to do with the safety device in the frame of the bed not releasing. the problem can be to much mud under neat the bed.
However they replaced the safety switches in the frame and straightened out the back of the bed and reinforced the ends of the pickup bale bed frame so the floor of the bed does not bend .
they also found the front bed bolts on to the pickup frame had rusted out

225 to fix it had more wrong with it than i thought
Wating for my bed they had several calls from people that had ordered Bradford since october the dealership called Bradford apparently did not have all the beds this dealership ordered finished yet .
