Just got home from a tour with the 4H club-we started out first thing this A'M at the Mannville Hutteritte Colony wrere the first tour they've ever taken through their colony-everybody had a great time-our guide Andrew could do stand up he's one funny guy. What I found interesting was how they mix skills that are centuries old with some of the most state of the art stuff. I think what impressed me most though was the health of the dairy calves and their band of 500 Rambouillet ewes. I bought a pair of leather gloves too that look like they'll last a bit. We ate the noon day meal with everybody and I'd be even fatter if I hung around there much. We then carried on to Highland Feeders and Theresa Larre took us a good tour-the good weather has things looking good on the 26,000 cattle they have in now-16,000 fresh calves. Got the urge to put cattle on feed again lol.

The bus winfdows were dirty not sure how the Highland pics will look.

THey had some good ideas in the calving setup if you early calve-the door into the barn could be run by a remote so you could open it up from the alley-you wouldn't cool the barn up while you brought a cow in. Every gate in the holding pens was designed to swing to the side to pin a cow to get calves sucking etc.

Did you like the roan steer-there was one real good pen of Saler steers there I quite liked.

He is a good looking steer. Love the roans anyways.

Saw some Shorthorn x Saler bred heifers in the Producer the other day, wonder what they would be like....
