This guy has been doing some serious damage out in my west pasture & also in my alfalfa field.
Any ideas on how to get rid of this fellow. A few years ago I was able to shoot one in my alfalfa but that was pure luck(his bad luck!!) cuz it was the middle of the day & I had my rifle in the truck.
Any ideas much appreciated! I know that keeping the gopher population down helps a lot but thats no help right now.
Thanks,
Rich

might try a rodenator . If it didnt kill him it likely would bring him out of the hole fast you you might want something to climb on handy LOL

#3 leghold trap with a good anchor. Keeps stock and pets away. Usually don't need to do any more than place it in his hole. Dispatch with a .22

One time my son caught a badger in a trap. He had gone down before the school bus came to check it and asked me to look after it as he had to go. I went down and shot the badger but the trigger from the trap had fallen off. I reached down the hole to see if i could find it and i heard this snarling.
I got my hand out of there and came home and made a new trigger and caught three more little badgers. :D

Brings back memories of my early trapping career.
My very first catch was a badger in a #3 coil spring set for coyote. Caught him by the hind leg no less. Had about a six foot lead on a drag and he could dig about as fast as I could pull him out with two hands. Then to get one in him with the .22 before he disappeared or got me. This is not a situation I would like to face today but I was 10 years old and a TRAPPER dammit. I persevered and got it done.

I wonder what kind of memories my kids are making on their gaming devices today? Shame on me, got to get them outside.

I totally agree with ya starving dog wonder if they will tell there kids about the level they passed when the where x years old. And you can always use the old roto-rooter trick. Hook 6 feet of barb wire on a drain snake and fish it down the hole. Then crank the handle till your target it tangled in the wire and pull him out. I have never done it only heard of it done by people and coyote tourneys. And for all I know could be a b/s story. Good luck with the badger they sure do make a mess.

Not many of them in BC but they are a protected species here.

Same here. Province can demand a 300 foot radius sanctuary be put around any burrow discovered, even if it's in the middle of your best cropland.

So to translate into simple Ontario farmer language, that means - 'kill 'em all'.

Take a tank full of water (empty round up shuttle works good) to his hole and with shot gun in hand open the valve filling his hole with water. Within minutes he will come out and fire away! Works great and its very entertaining. :D

Thanks for all replies. I`m not sure if they are a "protected species" here but anything causing that kind of damage doesn`t fit in the protected species category with me.
