It's been busy here and calving season is at the tail end. It doesn't seem like I have the opportunity to post as much as I used to, oh well.
I had a steer processed here recently. He was a charolais/angus cross, grass raised and finished on oat hay and a little alfalfa.
My meat man cut me a few ribeye steaks to try, after hanging for a week.
... and on to the grill they go. I like to put apple wood chips right on the top of the grill.
Tender, juicy, and a great flavor. Let the drooling begin.
I also got some bull shopping done. I bought a couple of yearling Angus bulls this time. These guys will go on my heifers and first calvers in about a months time.
These guys are both easy calvers with birth weights in 70 lb. range and they are as quiet as sheep.
This is the smoldering remains of a neighbors straw stack of around a 150 ton. It was just one of fifteen arson fires started a few weeks ago beginning just after midnight. Each fire was started about a mile apart, so we were spread out pretty thin and needless to say it was a long night and day. At least the punks were caught by the LEOs. They just followed from fire to fire until they finally caught them in the act. I just don't understand what goes on in some peoples mind's. It's probably better I don't understand.
I do understand what is important though... family, friends, community and the living Christ Jesus, Savior of the World.
Happy Easter!
