For all you bull sale lovers, just wondering what your thoughts were on these bulls. We have been breeding some of our heifers to bulls from this program.

What lot numbers are you looking at for heifer bulls? I went through the first 10 and I didn't find a heifer bull there. Executive 727 throws big bw, and that wouldn't work for us.
I'd have to study the pedigrees more to really have an opinion, but I do see where they crossed 727 back on smaller BW cattle to moderate BW. It will take a long time for that to be consistent. What is it they say, something like "one like the sire, one like the dam, and one in the middle." That's why you can't cross big BW cattle on small BW cattle and have any consistency in one generation. FWIW

I'm looking for cow bulls. I am looking at the missing link sons and grandsons which start around lot 25. I am also looking at the Rito Rolette sons.

What is with the majority of angus bulls and their hollowed out backs and goofy pointy tail heads.

Went to a consignment bull sale with a huge crowd and a wide range of bulls that sold
A buyer for every different kind of bull there
Not many buyers seemed to know the breeding or herds except the ones that got there knowledge from a AI directory
It was interesting watch people choosing a couple of certin EPD was their only
Selection factor
The better end of bulls sure could of brought more and the poorer end bulls sure should of bought a heck of alot less
Am seeing bull buyer sure lacking judging experience
Maybe the fact of taking livestock judging classes out if FFA
4-H and some colleges on a national basis is taking its toll
On selling the better end of the cattle
Watching someone pay 3,800 for bulls that would of not made a good steer
From a bull seller that just decided to get in the bull selling business this year is disturbing to me.

I really like this statement Hay Feeder and think its very accurate. Those folks probably had a footnote in the catalog saying something about their "program". It seems to me there are a lot more bull sellers than breeders in today's world.

Years ago, a man/wife team that raises nice Angus bulls, brought theirs in to be sold at their production sale. They had a rather sorry individual and the wife said to take him back home. The husband didn't agree and said "he's a low birthweight bull, someone will buy him." He was about the last bull in the sale, if not THE last bull. Sure enough, someone did buy him and they paid as much as the top selling bull...

I don't think there is any way to figure out people...

I have been keeping a list of the bull sales in my area. The only criteria is, can I drive to the sale and be back home the same day. So, basically I have a list of bull sales within a 200 mile radius of my house. I'm up to 74 sales and 65 are angus. Ought to be quite a list by May 1.

My intent in keeping the list started out as a curiosity. I've felt for a long time that this area was "heavily populated" when it came to breeders and their cattle for sale.
Larson's could be on my list. MapQuest says they're 180 miles west of me.

When buying, I look for cattle that have a +$EN value. My environment and checkbook won't/can't support cattle with a high milk EPD and negative $EN value. I like Larry Leonhardt's cattle and the Wye cattle.

There are quite a few more in your area!! Do you get the waconda trader? Everybody and their dog has registered bulls for sale!

Don't get the Waconda Trader. I get the sister publication, the Plains Trader. I've been getting names from it and off KFRM's sale ring.

Replacement heifers

If you are looking to raise replacement heifers and good cows- here is a list of a group of folks that raise cattle with that being their goal...

Not part of this group- But even before the group was formed these bloodlines were pretty much the direction we had decided to go with our cows to try and get rid of some problems and go back to the good old maternal angus cow...

There is lundgren-kaiser-overmiller-wildcat creek-a guy named vetter north of Beloit-a limi breeder always has sale at plainville-RA guy from palco-Herl RA at Victoria-another guy from the gove area other than lundgren his name has slipped my mind at the moment

These are just a few more off the top of my head that should be within an hour and a half away from you dejavu! Some have already had their sale by now but still there are a ton within not to far drive from you.
