Slipping in some Water Buffalo from India.

Most of this imported meat is coming from India, says Carter, which is home to 130 million domesticated and 40 million wild water buffalos.

Nothing to do with COOL...........do to fraudulent labeling.......allowed or encouraged by USDA

"We've always stayed on the sidelines of the country-of-origin-labeling debate because 99 percent of bison is produced in the U.S. and Canada," said Carter. "However, with Asian water buffalo being labeled as bison, we may have to change our tune on COOL because we clearly need to distinguish between North American bison and Asian water buffalo."

......speaking of that imported lean trim......hmmmmm.

It's also coming from Australia. Now where have I heard some of these arguments before?

Fraud is fraud. Just as most people would believe a package marked buffalo would be American bison, most people seeing a package marked product of the USA would believe it was born raised and slaughtered in the USA. Not mystery meat that literally could of come from anywhere and simply repackaged. Lest anyone thinks that isn't happening, USDA employees have testified to it.

What is being done, by whom, to correct that problem? I live one and two hours driving time from nearest small cities, so don't see much beyond the local meat stores.
