BLACKMOUTH CUR PUPS

I just watched a program today on RFDTV on the use of Cur dogs in Florida, they are a good breed for that area with all the marshlands and wooded areas. Pictures of your new babies would be fun to see..

Curs work well on any operation where you have Brahma influenced cows or brush, timber, or just wilder type cows. They are popular in florida and louisiana, and are getting extremely popular in texas with all the brush. Curs are not a herding dog, and do not push cattle from the rear, but bay at the head. Doctoring with curs is much easier as the dogs will bay an animal to a standstill and you just walk your horse up and throw a loop on them. As with any cowdog, you have to have a handle on them. We run e-colars on all our dogs and can put them on cattle and take them off at will. You have to have this control or these dogs will rough cattle up. Sorry so long, but i run into peaple from the herding dog crowd, and they just dont uinderstand how these dogs work.

Thanks for more detail, That show today did show the different style of the cur dog compared to our borders, aussies, and such. I think it's cool to see how different places use different dogs, for the same purpose...working cattle..Thanks

Cowcatcher,We are asking 250.00 for the pups, to be correct, they are 7/8 blackmouth and 1/8 leapord. We can demo this line of dogs for anyone who wants a pup. I ordered the roughout association corriente, had to wait a little bit as I wanted a 15.5 instead of a 16 in. I soaked it in neatsfoot as soon as it came in and I have no complaints. The best thing would be to order one and then have your local saddle guy pull all the nails and staples that they use in cheaper saddles and go back with stainless screws. Please let me know about your dog program. How many do you run? Use electrick collars? what do you have? blackmouth, leapords, or a mix? I am a cur dog nut, and believe its an art to have a nice set of dogs with good control on them.

Thanks for the info on the saddles. Did you get a full roughout and is their full QH bars 7 inches? I have some yellow black mouth curs. They are from stock originally bought from Texas and are foundation registered. I like the looks of them yeller dogs though if they work cows right I don't care what they look like. I also have some half cur-half walkers. Bear dog stock that do good on cattle. Have a border collie and bcXkelpie. A half bc-curXbulldog. He's doing good with alot of get ahead. According to the job I carry 2 to 4 curs but may carry pups anytime. I use tri-tronics collars for insurance. Even if I don't use them I have them on in case the dogs get on the wrong cattle. Some folks don't know what a cur dog baying cattle is and will shoot them. When tired they come off pretty good but when fresh not too good. I like dogs that don't quit me so I put up with that. Best book on using cur dogs for what they were bred to do is "Big Thicket Legacy", history of east Texas. Paul http://bradyranch.tripod.com
