BLM rejects Pickens horse rescue plan
Story Discussion BLM rejects Pickens horse rescue plan
By MARTIN GRIFFITH Associated Press trib.com | Posted: Friday, January
RENO, Nev. -- The federal Bureau of Land Management is rejecting a proposal from the wife of Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens to create a sanctuary in Nevada for wild horses removed from public rangeland around the West.

Agency Director Bob Abbey released a statement Friday to The Associated Press saying Madeleine Pickens' plan wouldn't save American taxpayers money and doesn't include enough water and grazing area for mustangs.

Abbey also criticizes Pickens' media campaign supporting the sanctuary.

The BLM chief says some of her information requires clarification and context, and other information is "just plain false."

Madeleine Pickens bought two ranches in northeastern Nevada last year to serve as a sanctuary to keep mustangs on the range instead of in government-funded holding facilities.

She says her plan would save the government money.

BLM is full of Sh^t. They just don't what to look like A@# when some one else comes in with a plan and it works. They think it better to hold them in pens than they be on some kind of rangeland. I bet Mrs Pickens would make sure these horses would be very well taken care of.

That may not be the case here. I don't know anything about this particular plan. But the second side of the story may have some logical reasons in its views.

She single handedly caused some grave injustices to occur in the education of veterinarians at Oklahoma State University in the name of humane animal treatment. The College was not in agreement with her views but changes were made due to political and financial pressure placed on it by her. The issue, is that there was no inhumane treatment. But future treatment of animals will suffer because of her actions.

She also adamantly supports the banning of equine slaughter houses. Anyone that is concerned about humane treatment of horses, should first and foremost realize that the slaughter houses offered a humane outlet for horses that were no longer wanted. Many more horses suffer in America today due to the restrictions placed on slaughtering horses.

Her plans may have good intentions, but sometimes princesses just don't understand the economics of the real world. She may have plenty of discretionary money, but I will ask you- where did it come from? Her own financial prowess? Is that why T Boon married her, he needed a little help understanding the energy market?
