Yes, he wrote 20 or so before he died. She took over the series after he passed. You should start from the beginning. I was hoping The Dark Wind was more than a mini series, we just learned about it.
What is the beginning? So I should start there and not read "The Shape Shifter" just yet?
I think The Dark Wind will have another season.

I decided to start reading "Before we were yours"...it captured me right away. Now I can't put it down.
Glad it was recommended to me, otherwise I would have never known about it.

How many here have watched Downton Abbey? It is fantastic. Not a western, but Mr. FH liked it as much as I did. I think there is a new season coming of it, too. There were several seasons/episodes. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Doesn't matter if you read them out of order, but if you start from the beginning you don't get confused about the characters.

Just finished The education of Little Tree, very good!
We tried Downton Abbey but quit after one of the main characters was gay. Should we give it another go?

Last week the bookmobile brought me:
The latest Ann Hillerman- great as usual. Her dads books are ones I reread alot. No one describes a thunderstorm/sunsets like he does!
Unbroken - Awesome book, thanks 'H!
Claiming Ground - ok
The Education of Little Tree - next to be read.

Thanks all for the ideas, keep them coming :)
The education of Little Tree is a great read and also a good movie.

The Last of the Mountain Men by Harold Peterson is a fantastic read about Sylvan Hart and the years he spent living on the Salmon River. Amazing photos of things he made.

My cousin Brett Cogburn has a lot of western fiction books and also a true story about his great grandpa "Rooster" (one of my great grandpa's cousins) that inspired the story True Grit. The real Rooster was not a nice man. My great-grandpa was a great kind God fearing man, horse back preacher, cattle rancher, horse and mule raiser, and trainer. I got my name Faye from that side of my family and Fayette along with Rooster were the ones that killed the Marshal for strong-arming their women. They were bootleggers and preachers with the Bible in one hand and a gun in the other. Interesting read.

I would say yes. They don't say much about it. They certainly don't make an issue of it or we wouldn't have watched. Not sure why that character is even included. He is part of what goes on just as a himself, so ??? Why did they have to have him be gay? I have no answer.

I made this dessert tonight. It's one of our favorites. I love anything with berries.

Blackberry Pudding Cake
(I make it with blueberries too, just add a bit more lemon juice and a little less sugar.)
2 c. fresh blackberries or blueberries
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. lemon juice
1 1/2 c sugar - divided
1 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
3 T butter, melted
1 T cornstarch
1 cup boiling water
Mix berries, cinnamon and lemon juice in bowl until coated. Pour into a greased 8" pan.
Combine 3/4 c sugar, flour and baking powder together in a separate bowl. Stir in milk and
butter. Spoon over berries in pan, covering as much as possible.
Stir remaining 3/4 cup sugar and cornstarch together in a bowl. Stir in boiling water until sugar
and cornstarch are dissolved. Pour entire mixture over berry mixture in pan. Bake 45-50 minutes.
