We chickened out and cancelled our branding this year because of the threat of snow. The neighbours moved up to our day, and while they got away with it, it was dang cold. I think there was even left over beer.

Wrestling is a pink job

Okay, it's an equal opportunity job.

Much like roping

Pretty good guy, 3rd generation on this place. Really stepped up since his dad had a bad stroke.

Kids seem to be in a predicament

Me doing my left handed thing

I didn't even get bucked off. Often times right handed peoples horses object to my lefthandedness.

Me trying to cause a wreck
didn't work, some pretty good hands here.

I note the "anti Limo" fencing in some of the pictures - much needed in my experience with these critters!

There's not a Limo to be seen in these pics, and they handle as good or better than the many 'other' breeds I've been around

Looks like you had fun and got the job done in spite of the temps. We couldn't have heeled calves even if we had wanted to, they would have been mudballs by the time they reached the fire.
When I started team roping years back I had to learn to rope right handed as no one would rope with a lefty. I am now an ambidexterous roper and can miss just as much either way. :D

Now I see what you're looking at. That's anti-elk fencing as they have a feedyard that makes one side of the branding pen.

What are they then Gelbvieh (or Blonde?)background with some Simmentals also? The solid colored ones very much have the limo look around the eyes.

Several generations of Blonde, about 25 years worth or more. The spotted ones are a result of their heifers getting in with the neighbours Longhorn bull. oops.
There has never been a Limo of any kind on the place.

Those Blonde cattle sure have some muscle and bone, according to the pics. I don't have much familiarity otherwise with the breed.

Don't know why anybody would want more working chutes and electric irons for a branding. Might as well just quit being cowboys. Oh, just kiddin', everybody has their own way.

Love the grulla colt and the kids having some wholesome fun. Appears to have been a great day.

Pretty dang astute observation there Brushpopper, you nailed it

Nice pics but does nobody up there ever use working chutes and electric branding irons??

umm... nobody I hang around with   :P
