I got an email from a good friend today who is going to quit visiting this site because of a few of you! I can't imagine why they would want to stick around and get told they are liars and dishonest and basically only in buisness to rip people off. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT SOME OF YOU DO TO ANY PUREBRED OUTFIT!!!
I understand that some of you were delivered by a doctor/bull producer who dropped you on your pointed head as a newborn and you still hold a grudge against both industries!
I also think some of you may be even more crooked than the folks who have ripped you off and never feel like you win a deal unless the other party limps when they leave.
How long until you run all the good folks off and it's just a bunch of loud mouths left to rule the site. I would rather you learn to tone it down a lot, shut the hell up or just go away.
There are a few of you that hopefully have the brains and the guts to apologize and start acting the way you'd like to be treated.
And there are a few who will throw out something like 'Have thicker skin" or "They left because the truth hurts". Well the gloves are off when you mess with my friends and family. Grow up or go away! Stop sitting behind a keyboard thinking that what you type doesnt hurt anyone! Stop acting like your poop doesnt stink! And stop running off people that are the reason a lot of us came to Ranchers.net in the first place.

As a side note, I would like to have some of ya'll PM me your emails. I would hope that the folks i think of us un-met friends would know who they are and send them along. You folks are the ones who make this site part of my daily routine. I'd hate to lose touch with you if I hang it up like too many have lately. But, just like buying bulls, you support and spend time at places that make you better. And you don't support the places where you just get sick and tired. Send me your email if you consider a desert dweller somebody you'd like to visit with once in awhile.

Well you got your post title right Leanin' H.
The irony of the hypocracy is astounding. You bemoan the fact that some people are forced to leave the site yet you suggest the solution is for some other folks to "tone it down a lot, shut the hell up or just go away." Who decides who the "good people" are? is that your decision or is it by committee of the folks that PM each other to talk behind the backs of those posting their opinions openly? Are the folks that congratulate a breeder on his program or bull picture in public and then badmouth the same program or bull picture to others by PM "good people" or "bad people" :?
I really value free speech, I think people should post their opinions, debate issues if they want to. I have no time for people that want to stifle debate, limit the scope or type of topics that we discuss - same in the wider worlds beyond Ranchers. It is a fundamental part of democracy.
If some people step out of line or are BSing on something they tend to get called on it and it doesn't matter what camp you are in to receive this treatment (Grassfed vs corn fed, exotic vs British, large vs small, bale grazed vs silage). To suggest that "one side" is always guilty of beating up or intimidating the "other side" is pure paranoia in my opinion. I have probably disagreed with everybody on here on one topic and agreed with them on another, kind of like life.
Sorry H, nothing personal, but I just don't agree with your opinion on this one.

Well Grassfarmer, I tried being nice about it. Many, many times! But a few on here, including you, always take shots at purebred outfits. Some comments made are borderline slander. You raise Luing cattle and I rasie Angus. Rather than tear you down for what you do, why not accept our differences as part of life? Rather than start an anti-luing society, why not realize we live thousands of miles apart and what works here won't there? Most of the time, from what you yourself have posted here, I get the idea you have never, ever had anything but horrible experiences with buying a bull. I don't have nearly the number of cattle or success you have (meant as a compliment) but have been on ranches for my entire 41 7/8 years. I can think of ONE shady outfit in that time. Therefore I dont throw a blanket over that whole part of our industry because of one bad apple. You seem to do that to me. Every seedstock producer has bad intentions or is down right dishonest from the tone of your posts. Well one of them has gotten tired of it and feelings tromped enough to leave. Too bad for all of us. You are right about what I wrote. None of us should need to be the judge or web police. We all ought'a type a little less and think a whole lot more. As far as you comment about Pm'ing behind peoples backs you lost me. Didnt you Mother teach you "if you can't say something good, don't say anything at all"? But I reckon saying something in private to someone would be better than spouting off in cyberspace and running down folks. You and will probably disagree as much as we agree. But when GOOD FOLKS get hurt, something ought'a get said. That was my intent. It still is!

as a guy who raises something other than black cattle, I can see your point H, many on here post thier pics of the different breeds. many of the breeds have things I find not very appealing, but I am biased to my cows, and the goals I am trying to achieve.... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. most of us don't take critisism too well, and on a web board, EVERYONE is ten feet tall and bullet proof. ( classic example, our resident sherriff ) hope your pal don't leave too quickly. because the crap gets deep here, but it drains away rather quickly.

I don't "always take shots at purebred outfits" why would I? I am a purebred and commercial breeder and will comment on posts about both equally as I see fit. You are wrong on the bull issue - I have bought some good bulls (and females) of various breeds over the years from programs I was happy to deal with and have mentioned those where appropriate. I've had the experiences I've had and if I want to relay them, good or bad, who are you to attempt to sensor them?

Well for a purebred breeder yourself, you sure run them down a bunch. I'm done arguing with ya. If you dont realize how much you bash PB outfits what I tell you wont make a dent. I dont want to sensor you GF! I just wish you'd do it yourself! You run your cattle how you dang well please and allow others the same slack. Ask questions but try being polite. Critic folks as you see fit but know that your words are aimed at people and not your computer monitor. Try treating folks BETTER than you'd want them to treat you. Because what you or I might find funny or just a comment can ruin somebody else's day. Who wants to do that? If you do, then here's where we part ways.

Interestingly- right now on the 3 other cattle boards I checkout- Advantage Cattle and 5 Bar X (both mostly made up of purebred folks) and cattletoday there are arguments/threads going on questioning purebred/seedstock producers/production and the ethics/m.o.'s of some... :???:

Cattletoday even has a thread going about a named breeder....

Ah heck, H, I was reading in an old book I have laying around. It said something about an ox making a stall dirty, but still an ox was a good thing to have. When you are on a site that is open to anyone with a puter, there will be some comments that ruffle you up, and some that build ya up. Hate to see anyone leave, and especially one such as yourself. Lots of people have attitudes I don't like, and I spect some don't care for mine, but posts such as yours are a good reason to put up with some others. No one makes us look at a thread we don't like. Hang around.................

Shortgrass, I doubt I'll leave as the good out weighs the bad by quite a bit. But how many good folks have to leave until we all decide to wander off. Kola and I wouldnt agree probably ever on politics. Same with me and Mrs. Greg. But they both left and both took part of this site when they did. Some of the best emails I get forwarded my way come from Mrs. Greg. She is as fine of an example of a christian lady as I'll ever know. How could any site not be worse off losing someone of her caliber? :???: Sorry for my rant. Sometimes I broadcast when I should recieve. Everyone should be able to say whats on their mind. I just wish tact and respect came out with the words. :?

I guess I should of kept my rant in my head. Aint nobody on a side MsSage! This is about respect and kindness and thoughtfulness instead of rudeness and finding fault all the time. Why don't ya'll forget I brought it up. As usual, what started out as trying to get folks to think a little more and treat folks a tad bit better has got lost in the chaff. I guess we are all wired differently. That's what makes us who we are. For better or worse.

I have a hard week with those that apparently do not agree with what is right or wrong in the purebred business. Nobody can say what is right or wrong. "To each their own".

I don't want to single anybody out. I have been nailed pretty hard on a business decision I made, and that I full believe in the deal.

A whole lot of you hammered on me, but the only person that has made right on the deal is Oldtimer. Sure, he might be hard to deal with at times, but in my mind, I'd rather have him on my side than anyone else on this board. We may not always see eye to eye, but we can always agree to differ, and not go to slingin mud.

There are several different aspects, environments, philoshpoies, & abilities to raising cattle in the US & Canada. What works for you might not work for me. It may not work for your specific area, but we are all trying to scrape out a living doing the same thing. And we all may not make a living from the cows. We might not have "daddy's" ranch (NOT STARTING A FIGHT WITH THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE THAT HAVE STAYED AT HOME TO WORK FOR WHAT YOUR HAVE) to start from. But....... wherever we come from, no matter where we got our start, we are all one trying to do " the best we can"

Except kolo is back!!!

I just do not like the personnal attacks on a person. Everything else can be compromised on even it is an agreement to disagree.

I make a few controversial remarks now and again. I don't think I am smarter than anyone else. I come here to learn how others do things because I don't have all the answers. This a plastic world on here and so there is a bit of fantasy that goes along with everything on the net. Quoting Brad Paisley "I am so much cooler online"

Like I mentioned above I come here for the learning aspect and the entertainment value. I get a kick out the personalities that pound out their logic and lore. It is just like goin to local cafe or coffee shop. Some of the wisdom expounded, you just have to take with a grain of salt.

H I am glad you stated your opinion. There was no sense in keeping it to yourself. You needed to vent and I respect that.

H, name me a purebred breeder that has been more openly criticized, by name, on this forum and others than Kit Pharo? And I know many of his critics to be other purebred breeders. Are we to assume that your friend is leaving because of all the criticism of Kit?

Obviously, the seedstock business is a tough, competitive business...it isn't for the faint of heart. Buyers are gambling their future on the cattle they buy...and when things don't work out, they look for someone else to blame. May be cliché, but anybody in the seedstock business had better grow a pair!!

Freedom is not neat and pretty...when you try to make a forum be ONLY nice and respectful, it's not free!! Those that decide to leave...that's their choice...someone will replace them. And I will take a replacement like a Dylan Briggs any day...oh wait...HE'S A SEEDSTOCK PROVIDER!!!!!

The reason I like this site is because it has the MOST respectful and considerate folks to visit with. I sometimes check in on the farmjournal discussion pages and it doesn't take long to get tired of the namecalling and backbiting there. Of course I try to stay out of PB on here too because no matter what nobody is going to change their mind on their politics. Might as well save your breath and try to change someone's mind on how they run their ranch. Yeah right.
