Heading to the bins.....

buckarooing on the end of a shovel

last the grain going down the auger.......

Not a morsel of grain left behind......

Some spoilage from the door leaking... Not work for the weak stomach.
Now we are ready for corn or sunflowers.......

There's bins and there's Has-bins, but those are Big Bins :shock: How many sunflower plants does it take to fill one up?
A weird questions but do folks ever convert one of those to houseing?

Boy I have'nt been in one of those in 25 years.My family is from southern Mn.My grandpa had a large grain farm back then.

I can smell the wet grain from here.

I could smell that rotten grain all the way up here :wink: :lol: One of those smells you don't forget...The worst I ever cleaned was one I opened the door on a 90+ day that the lid had came loose- it was full of dead rotting pigeons, pigeon sh*t and rotten grain :gag: :gag: :gag:

NR, we had an architect student look at the pictures of this place and he tought the same thigna s you, that it could make interesting housing... Would need a big AC and some good heating because gosh darn they are hot in there.. I always hated cleaning out our bins when we grew corn. Generally not much rotting grain in our bins (Although sometimes the auger hopper was stinky as all get up) but the dust and heat was always something special..

Now, emptying the bean bins was nasty, stinky and a long day... Coon crap everywhere..

Isn't that a fun job, Katrina? Me and the best friend cleaned ours out and some of his, and between breathing in the dust and inhaling the stink of spoiled grain (cause there's always some), I coughed and hacked for days afterwards. I'm too pig-headed to wear a mask.

Shelly, I'm not much help as I spend most of my time with the dry heaves.. Rotten grain, rotten cows and cleaning a fowl of any kind give me the dry heaves....... We invested in a grain vac and it was money well spent.... Takes the dust out of the air and way easier on the back.......

nr, I will ask hubby how many plants it takes to fill a bin..... That is a good question.......

Ot, Denny....... Nothing like spoiled grain smell is there..... Is there anything nastier???? I don't think so..............

There is between 13 and 14 thousand seeds planted per acre. And approximatly one ton of seed to an acre....... There is approximatly a half a pound of seed to one head of a sunflower. And two-hundred-fifty thousand pounds to a bin........ Now that sure should clear up that question.....

A half pound of seed per flower! Those are huge! Mine are more like petunia-size :roll: Congratulations on your harvest!
