Went to Maynard Conroy's bull sale north of Gordon the other day and thought prices were $1000 off of last year. Conroys offer real tight consistency but not trait benders, and sometimes it seems like the big check writers like the trait benders. Well, after soapweed has explained the value of consistency, I may be a few years late to the party, but I'm a convert. Have all the sales been pretty soft? I think Conroys held back 30 or more.

I was at that sale, too, Brad. It looked like they passed out 9 of the 36 that were offered. There was a horse sale that day also. I didn't bid on anything at either event. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Brock supervised our biggest calf run of the season. It's nice to know that I can be gotten along without. :cboy:

Bull sales out west are down some as well. A few have averaged $6000 but most are closer to $4000. At least the ones I have watched and a few that my friends have attended.

I think weather really affected some of the early sales

Up and down here. Watched a bull sell online yesterday for $105,000 that we had looked at the day before. We wouldn't have took him home do to his movement ???

But they will sell 100,000 straws of semen on him.
That's what Mike said.

I've looked at some of these Bull prices and what we do with our open cows ($1,600 direct market the beef). I've said to myself, I could buy a lot of semen and live with a 70% conception rate"... I never have pulled that trigger though. Perhaps pride gets in my way. I really like having good bulls and just one or two opens.
