I got a beauty for $3200 should be delivered in 30 days or so.... I was at my brother in laws this past week and was admiring his bull from Ridders, did some looking and it seems our two bulls have the same grand sire... hope this one grows up to be as good looking as the one he bought!!!

me too, and just looking doesn't cost much :D i'm going to Koupal's on Monday. looking is all i'll probably be able to afford, but we'll see........

I watched some of the Felton Angus sale today. They have good cattle
and don't use big name AI sires. The first time I saw their bulls was when
Rock Creek Cattle Co. at Deer Lodge changed from running Hereford
bulls to running Black Angus bulls. They bought some from Feltons and
those were really a stout set of bulls. Rock Creek was there buying, so
guess they have liked those bulls for a long time now.

I only caught the last pen of bred heifers. They looked great and were
bred to Pendleton to calve March 20. They only brought $920.
They looked the right kind to us.

Now the horses, I got some prices on the ranch horses that sold.
They went past 3:00 so I didn't get them all. There were 20 horses and
2 were taken out of the sale, so 18 sold.
in all and they had videoed some of them outside roping and dragging
calves to the fire. All looked good and they had a 10 day guarantee.
If they weren't as advertised, you could take them back to Billings and
they would meet you there and take them back. Unfortunately, we
didn't get registed in time to buy...

The top selling horse that I saw was a horse you could head or heel
on and he looked very smooth to ride, $8750.
I'm missing some of my notes
Lot 10-8 yr. grey gelding $4250.
Lot 11-9 year old paint $3500
Lot 12-10 yr.old buckskin $3250
Lot 13-10 year old roan they said was gentle, gentle, gentle $4500
Lot 14-6 yr. old dun $2300. (I think this was a good buy!!)
Lot 15-OUT
Lot 16-7 yr. old big stout roan gelding $3250
Then the tv switched because it was 3 pm and they don't have
any overlap time. The horses were in their working clothes and
were presented very well. We enjoyed the fact that most of the
horses were shown doing actual work. I think this is a sale to
watch in the future if you are in the market for a good using horse.

Most I've spent was $4250 and on that day another grand would'nt have bothered me but a couple grand cheaper would have been to my likeing also. I went to buy one bull and one only and thats what I did that day..I do think you should go look at the bulls sometime before sale day that way you got alot of time to weigh out what you really want and how much you think he's worth to your operation. I spent a few hours looking at the bulls and their mothers the day before. I got to the sale 5 minutes before it started and to my dismay my bull was 3rd in sale order so I figured I'd have to bid to own him..

i wish Feltons were closer. i would like to see their bulls and their cowherd. i heard Jim say on RFD-TV once..."we use the best bulls you probably never heard of."
i don't think there is anything wrong with that :)

I watched parts of the Feltons sale- and thought it was a little weak...Especially those registered bred heifers- altho they were selling them gate cut- and I didn't have a catalog to know if they were transferring papers or not- or charging for it.....But even without papers they were weak...
Some of the heifers were at the sale in Springdale- the other at the Miles City ranch...The Miles City ones sold the weakest :???:

I think I heard a couple no sales- and at least a couple of bulls sold for $1250... Quite a bunch of bulls could be had in the $2000 or under range..

I thought they sold a good bunch of using horses- and some of the early ones were pretty weak priced- selling for under $2000...That $8750 grade gelding looked like a perfect one for a kid learning to rope... Chad guarantees them that if you find a problem- or you don't like them- bring them back- and get your money back....

Do you know they have a ranch by Ashland, Justin?
That's not far from you.

no, i didn't know that. as a crow flies, its not that far. by road, i'm guessing its about 250 miles, if that. i may have to look in to taking that road trip someday. thanks FH

$2500 got him from Wicthita Ks. Delvered 2 hours away. Halter broke
The same herd raised his gggggdam since 1942. That means alot to me
if any real breeding herd has kept replacments from the same cow that many years. I figure he was a steal.

In 2001, I spent $3500 on an Angus bull. No one in my family had ever spent that much money on a bull before :o  Know what? I've still got him and he's still breeding cows. Money well spent. IMHO. This past spring I jumped in and spent $5,250 on a yearling. His blood lines made me want him reeeaaaallllyy bad. Spent $3,800 on an In Focus son for a heifer bull and $2,500 on an Alliance 6595 son. Generally, in my area $2,500 will get about whatever you are looking for. Lots of registered breeders around here. Lots of competition.

An upcoming Superior RFD broadcast bull sale coming up that I want to try and watch is the Bradley 3 Ranch sale out of Texas...It will be on this Saturday the 13th....

Been reading and researching their program and herd and talking with them about their stringent culling for maternal qualities- connected to some good old genetics...
Their bull Tender Ten, that ABS has, got me interested- as with his double 5522 breeding, -3.3 BW and +13 CED along with a good carcass rating, he looks like something I might want to use on some heifers- and that would make some good momma cows out of any heifers they had ...

Texas is a little far to go to check them out- but the videos might give me a better idea- as they have a lot of Tender Tens sons in the sale, besides wanting to see what the whole bunch looks like....
