We have used the gamut of bunchers over the years here but have gone to the very simple Jones Buncher for the last few years.

It is just a simple fork that hinged with weights on the front. As the straw and chaff land on it the weight brings it down and the stubble sweeps it clear to start all over again.

It is pretty simple but I don't know how it does on a new modern combine. I know they are used on the TR New Holland. A call to Alan Jones in Balzac would confirm what it has been used on.

my guess is that is for running cows in snow on the stubble.... around here, if you even stop in the field and let the chaff build up the guys go crazy....all this notill and residue management has made it tough to harvest for your neighbors.

It's like that here too Jigs. The cows will clean these up pretty good and with a shot of heavy harrows one passing is usually possible. I still run an old antiquated airseeder and 2 pass it. This is with out a doubt the most economical way to winter my cows and we still can have a good crop as well.

Maybe a stupid question, but is that spring wheat? Are you still spreading the straw and just bunching chaff or bunching everything?

Do cows like that about like oat straw? I dont think we could get them to eat piles of our wheat chaff, but maybe i am wrong.

Oat straw would work but I doubt wheat would be a good idea. Cows don't like it and the chaff might be too rich.
