Odd question for y'all but thought maybe this would be the easiest way to get some connections. I'm a 3rd year DVM student looking for an opportunity to help calve over spring break (about March 15-23rd, give or take). I've worked on feedlots (up to 40,000 hd) and ranches (up to 4500 hd) and am told I'm a good hand. I've got a fairly versatile set of skills from cattle to herd data analysis, fencing, feeding (driving tractors, not mechanics), doctoring (obviously), horses (riding/training, not shoeing), and play well with others. I've been offered the opportunity to work on one of the feedlots over break, but... I like seeing new country.

The biggest catch is that I'm looking for a large enough operation that could use the help over spring break... pulling 2 or 3 calves in a week gets fairly boring for a vet. I'm in eastern Washington, happy to travel within reason - or slightly more if someone will cover travel expenses. I have a passport and would be interested in going into Canada too. Reply or send me a PM if you have comments or ideas. Thanks-

Most ranches would like to see it more boring and not pull any calves. :D

Might be better to help out a large animal vet in cow country as they would get the C section calls.
I guess Saskatchewan is maybe a little out of the way or i would get you in touch with our vet. :D

You have an 8 day window, I would e-mail all 14 large animal practices in the western half of the north hemisphere, and take bids on who wants a vacation the most.
I'm kidding, but not by near as much as I should be...

You might get with Simplot in Grandview , ID.. I think they calved out like 10,000 a few years back, They had theirs and a bunch of Charlais they were wintering for someone else.

Hard part may be finding someone calving in your time window

Hey milkmaid! Great to see you back!!!!!

Reading your post got me to thinking of our vet up here. Says he starts the calving rounds in December and does not stop til almost June!

We start our calving around the mid March but having only 60 some head we would not be very good for you.
