At 2AM we were 40 F and at 8am were 0 F. :(

It's 24mph winds with gusts to 46.

Yesterday I scraped the bunk pad and hauled lick tubs to the badlands and Tam drove her team without gloves. Today Not gonna happen.

Please close the barn doors and keep that weather. We are supposed to have snow and ice tomorrow then head into the dreep freeze for most of next week.

Yep- same here and also snowing and blowing... I see they now have a blizzard warning out for NW North Dakota...
Those southern newcomers to the Bakken are getting their welcome to the area!

Figured it would warm up here soon because the cows hardly ate anything yesterday. The warmer air hit here overnight and the rest of the ice is falling off of the trees. Big chunks coming down that would definitely put a dent in yer cap if it hit ya!

S'posed to mild today and tomorrow before the deep freeze hits again on Monday. :?

My brother-in-law works there and he said that many of the newbies are moving out of there in droves or are already gone. Can't take that cold.

Wind went down here- only about 20mph now- but it really howled for awhile this morning... Weather bureau says the highest official gust was south of Malta at 70mph...

Snow quit- sun came out- and now we head for the icebox with predicted temps around 15 to 20 Below...

Got to +50 F yesterday and +40 F today so after church I graded the roads that washed so bad last week in our 100 year rain on 6" of snow - - - In this area many county and state roads were washed out.

I keep my roads in good enough shape that they were still all usable the next day but I don't want to ride the ruts the rest of the winter and the forecast for next week is highs in the teens, so I graded all 5 miles on my property and when they freeze they are properly crowned and the tops are smooth as a baby's bottom.

Much better to drive on till spring!

With 125 HP I can smooth a lot of road in short order - - - If we get 10" or more of drifting snow I will put the V plow on the front and tire chains on all 6 tires and collect a check from the county! I put engine enclosures on with the tire chains to avoid fuel problems.

I would like to have a little grader like that for around the ranch. I think it would be quite handy, and even extend equipment life keeping the haul trails smooth while moving bales into the yards.
On the other hand, I guess it would be another machine to look after, so maybe a pull type would be the answer. :???:

We just got home from our Florida trip our house is heated by our outdoor wood stove and our fireplace. We have propane backup and me being cheap I'd turned it down while we were gone and let the stoves go out.WELL when I walked in the house I thought it felt a bit cool the thermometer on the wall by the patio door read 44.9 degrees. Needless to say all fires are burning at peak output at the moment. Mama is'nt even upset so life is good..

I bought that machine in about 1998 from a local county hi way department at an auction - - - the paint was so bad you could not hardly tell what color it was supposed to be and had several leaks but seemed to operate fine - - - I got it for about $7,000.00 and got all the leaks stopped, sand blasted it, one coat of Zink primer, 2 coats of top coat and new decals - - - It still looks good today and runs very well. No AC but I have 2 heaters in it - - - I can open windows and doors in the summer and keep it bearable as I am rarely in it over a couple of hours at a time.

I highly recommend http://www.magnetpaints.com/ as I found them several decades ago and while they are one of the cheapest around ( that is why I went with them ) I have found from experience with them their paint is about the best anywhere. I get the primer with 18% zinc and it stops rust in its tracks and the topcoats look great for decades.

Yesterday it was quite obvious we were getting a weather change- cows were running and bucking, fighting with each other.... Deer out all day grazing, coyotes a yipping up a storm toward evening... Hawks and eagles everywhere hunting....
And today we have snowing, blowing, drifting...

Temp is dropping- 4 Above when I got up- now 4 Below with a chill factor of 30 Below... Forecast is for this storm to pass thru tomorrow- bringing warmer weather (35-40 Above) for a couple of days- and then back into the deep freeze (-20's to -30's) for Sunday....

Hard for me to get used to this up and down- but luckily I can't see where its negatively impacting the cows or calves any...

But this storm sure gives another good reason to spend New Years at home with some of the Grandkids!
Happy New Year!
