Thank you Julie for sharing your photos of the Christmas treasure of New Mexico. A couple of years ago, I tried to post a pic or two of luminarias from Farmington, but my photos were not nearly as good as yours.

Dedicated is a great way to describe those who put on luminaria displays. It is quite a job to fill the sacks with sand, candles, and then keep the candles lit, and sacks upright.

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to you and yours...

Christmas cheers---

luminarias? or farolitos?

I lived up near Llano San Juan in Taos County (near the Picuris Pueblo) and in that part of NM, luminaria's were the small bonfires built lining the drive from the road to the house. farolitos were the sand/candle/paper bag combination that was placed on the adobe walls.

South of I-40...they are luminarias....
:)

it's a constant argument in NM --luminarias or farolitos

Red or Green (chile) ???

Julie...

I guess in some locales north of I-40 (the greater Farmington area, for one) they are luminarias...the great debate will go on...

Either kind of chile suites me just great...they don't have either in the great "white" north of the Dakotas!!!

Christmas cheers---
