Went flying looking for the last few cows that are out today. Flew with the same guy that has been flying me and a lot of other ranchers for years in a Supercub that is new to him.
I asked before we took off if we had enough fuel and he figured we had lots for about an hour and a half.

WRONG

Luckily we had enough after it started sputtering on the SECOND empty tank we were able to land on a neighbors hay meadow. Neighbor came out to see what was wrong and all he had a couple gallons of chainsaw mix. Made it the last twenty miles back to the airstrip in town. While we were trying to figure out the best place to land on a rough Chilcotin hayfield I mentioned that my Dad always said it was cheaper to run on the top half of the tank. Duke agreed there was a lot of merit to that bit of wisdom. At least now he knows where the tank reads when its dry :D
Anyway, we were both safe and sound but didn't see anything for cows, especially after we started looking for a soft place to land. :D

There are old pilots, and bold pilots. There are no old bold pilots...

I'd rather have a two hour bladder and three hours of gas than vice versa.....

you flew back on chainsaw mix

stayed close to the ground i bet

thats just too funny, sounds kind of redneck

glad everybody is ok!!! that could have been alot worse.

Geeze gcreekrch take it easy. We don't want to start looking for a new hunting spot. I had a landing like that once and it we almost had to undo our pants to get the seat covers back where they belonged.

Had to laugh, though I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time...each time we get into our little cessna,,first thing I check is the fuel gage and if it's half or less,,I make hubby put in fuel...he just rolls his eyes , but does it...lol

The way things turned out, all there is to do is laugh it off and learn from the mistake.
I know that from now on, if I'm paying the tab, there will be enough fuel on board to make another trip after I'm out.

Note to self...IF I ever get a chance to visit Daves place,DO NOT take him up on offer to see it by air....... 8) OHHHH and don't ask Corey to ride along for the visit....... :P

Now that boy is one cool cookie to pull off a landing like that- most folks would just be kissing their rear goodbye and never even figure how to bring that thing in....

Wow!!!! That is incredible. I've had some interesting happenings flying but would probably have met my maker that day. Would be pretty hard to practice that maneuver.

I have been around cows all my life. But I have had and still hold other jobs.

As a military transport pilot and fighter pilot and an accident investigator for many years - you are lucky - very lucky - and I personally would have kicked that guys head in once I was safely on the ground.

Pilots have a moral and ethical responibility not only to their passengers, but those who might live under the flight path

Most crashes involve picking up pieces of bodies and closed coffin funerals. Certainly every one I attended was of this nature.

You fly with that guy you are either a very brave man or a fool.

Small planes kill as fast and as efficiently as big ones. The earth sucks at the same rate for all airborne objects.

Please, please - never let him fly you or your family again - hugely irresponsible individual and an example of how God looks after drunks and fools.

You get down on your knees and thank Him my friend

I am truly glad you are still here.

Perfect example of a high performance aircaft and how rudder can save you if all goes well.

Guarantee the pilot will tell you he was more than a bit nervous and hoping only to get close to the ground at a slow speed and survive.

Nice bit of flying - but not something that would be fun to repeat I am sure.

Thanks BC, I truly appreciate your concern.
I will fly with him again, this guy is a good bush pilot although his brother is ten times better. It was a nearly unforgivable mistake that turn out OK.
I can guarentee that his fuel tanks will never be that short of fuel again. It was good that the Lord was flying with us that day, this guy is so meticulous with all of his machinery that it was quite a surprise to be running that short. He had run one tank out of fuel before...intentionally and by himself..to see what the sight glass was showing when it was on empty. The other sight glass was showing 1/4 of a tank when the plane started sputtering apparantly had an air lock.
I have flown with this pilot off and on for ten years and am the only passenger that can say anything but an uneventful flight. Lucky me huh?

The one bit of wisdom you passed on I can't use, he's a bunch tougher than I am. :D

By the way, I was reading some older stuff on here where you had written that you lived in the Nazco or Blackwater area. PM me if you want to do some catching up.
