Went flying looking for the last few cows that are out today. Flew with the same guy that has been flying me and a lot of other ranchers for years in a Supercub that is new to him.
I asked before we took off if we had enough fuel and he figured we had lots for about an hour and a half.
WRONG
Luckily we had enough after it started sputtering on the SECOND empty tank we were able to land on a neighbors hay meadow. Neighbor came out to see what was wrong and all he had a couple gallons of chainsaw mix. Made it the last twenty miles back to the airstrip in town. While we were trying to figure out the best place to land on a rough Chilcotin hayfield I mentioned that my Dad always said it was cheaper to run on the top half of the tank. Duke agreed there was a lot of merit to that bit of wisdom. At least now he knows where the tank reads when its dry
Anyway, we were both safe and sound but didn't see anything for cows, especially after we started looking for a soft place to land.
