Well finally we got to cut hay. Who knows if it'll stay dry or not. We've been gettin thunderstorms every 3 or 4 days with not enuff time in between to lay it down. Today we finally decided, might as well git it done, if it rains it rains, if it don't it don't. At least it'll be up off the field in a few days and it can get busy growin the next cuttin. Rye grass was startin to turn a lil brown.

On our way back to the house, we seen we'd already got a small shower. Don't know if the hay was in it's path, but it didn't look like it was headin that direction. LOL

Sure fire way to make it rain is to get some hay laid down. LOL That n washin yer truck.

Washing your truck is a good way to make it rain but if you take the time to wax it too, it's almost a guarantee for a gully washer! :D

Ga'lll dang it Lilly...seems like we'll never catch up with ya! Here we are just getting our grass to turn green and yur a mowin yurs already! I sure hope we have as good of luck with our hay this year..You've got a good start! :-)

Boy,that grass got tall quick,we been cuttin a lil costal around here ,but it aint that tall, what are yall cuttin costal/blue stem mix ?
PS post some pictures when you get to rollin :D

It's mostly rye grass this time of year, with some johnson grass in it. There's coastal underneath it all, second cuttin has more coastal mixed with the johnson grass.

The horses that stay out in the pasture with the cows eat it in the winter time with no problems. But we don't give it to Lil Lilly's barrel horse.

No everyone down here doesn't cut with this kinda cutter.....just us poor folk LOL I kid Mr Lilly all the time that it's the cutter Noah used when the water went down. Our rake was his too. Baler might have been his grandson's LOL But it gets the job done, takes a lil longer than the fella's with the big new equipment. But it's paid for. Can't beat that part of it.

That looks like a dang good hay cutter. And I have not seen hay that thick in years. One of these days I hope to cut some like that.

LOL there were places that all I could see was the exhaust pipe and his head stickin up above the grass. Here's a photo of the first round cuttin the outside of the field. It's thicker in some places than others.

Thats some nice looking forage, and not having to pay big interest payments on the equipment makes it that much sweeter :!: Shawn

Gotter all rolled up today after gettin the bearin put on the baler.

This is our son, he raked. Instead of me. Don't know how exactly that I managed to "loose that job" LOL

4 bales to the acre this go round.

I like your rake. I bought one of those V rakes last year but I found myself going back to the house to get my old side delivery rake last cutting. That V rake just left too much hay on my hilly fields.

4 bales to the acre huh ? maybe i will come visit you and bring my ole hay trailer ? :D ..................good luck

LOL Haymaker, your welcome to visit any time.......but leave yer trailer at home. I'm just hopin we can bale enuff to make it thru winter without runnin out way too soon like we did last year.
I'll share my coffee, and I'll share meals.....but it's ruff when ya aint got hay to make it thru. Lotta folks were in the same shoes these last couple years.
you got any cut n baled yet?

I been baleing a few small patches of jiggs for an old friend,I dont have any permanent grasses planted on the Hill Country place,to many indian artifacts so i have the fields in cane type grasses, have some red Top cane about waist high ,be a few more weeks till I cut it,the family has been baleing costal south of san antonio,l think they been gettin bout what you got.............good luck
