    Genesis 14: 18 - 20

Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words:

"Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High who delivered your foes into your hand."

Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Psalm 110: 1 - 4

The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool."  The scepter of your power the Lord will stretch forth from Zion: "Rule in the midst of your enemies. Yours is princely power in the day of your birth, in holy splendor; before the daystar, like the dew, I have begotten you."

The Lord has sworn, and he will not repent: "You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek."

First letter of Paul to the Corinthians 11: 23 - 26

I received from the Lord what I handed on to you, namely, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread, and after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."  In the same way, after the supper, he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."  Every time, then, you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes!

Gospel of Luke 9: 11 - 17

Jesus spoke to the crowds of the reign of God and he healed all who were in need of healing.

As sunset approached the Twelve came and said to Jesus, "Dismiss the crowd so that they can go into the villages and farms in the neighborhood and find themselves lodging and food, for this is certainly an out-of-the-way place." He answered them, "Why do you not give them something to eat yourselves?" They replied, "We have nothing but five loaves and two fish. Or shall we ourselves go and buy food for all these people?"  (There were about five thousand men.)  Jesus said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of fifty or so." They followed his instructions and got them all seated. Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven, pronounced a blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to his disciples for distribution to the crowd. They all ate until they had enough. What they had left, over and above, filled twelve baskets.
