Few days ago there was a beautiful German Shepherd on the door mat at the P.O. I pulled up,she came to the truck. When I spoke to her,she put her head in my lap and told me all about what had happened to her(didn't understand a word) She kept all 4 feet on the ground as I walked in.. Was told she had been there all day,and they were thinking 'bout calling the pound!! I told them that she was an obviously "high dollor "dog, and, with her manners someone had put a lot of time into her.
Well.the mailcarrier took her home, posted photos everywhere, and her owner was found!! They live about 20 miles away, way out in the country..we think she was scared of the thunderstorms we had here, and ran..anyhow owher has pancreatic cancer, and was frantic to find the dog. Thank God she didn't get on the hwy..
Just something good that happened..

our nieghbors had a dog disappear a few months back and came to talk to my wife to see if we had seen peekaboo (Some little dust mop of a dog, maybe 8 pounds).. We hadn't and it had been a couple days since they had and they were getting pretty desperate. I basicaly assumed that a coyote and snacked on her but last week we were driving down the road and there were the neighbors going for a walk with peekabo. Appaently lthe little dog had decided to go for a walk by herself and a livestock truck driver picked her up and gave her to another neigbhor who runs a truck washout.. Well, he wasn't there so his mother had the dog.. Eventually the news got out that the dog was missing and they happily returned the little critter... Hard to think of a litle dog walking 1.5 miles away from home but that is what she did... I was happy I was very wrong about the little dogs fate.

So glad for this happy ending...So why can't CNN or any other news station report a happy story like this? It has drama, maybe a few tears of emotion, and reunions are always a good thing...I'd watch the news more if it had "feel good" stories instead of negative stuff all the time. Thanks for this one... :)

I read the title to this and it reminded me of the first puppy I ever got. I still to this day don't know what breed it was.....I was about 3 years old. Had went to the grocery store with Grandma and Grandaddy. Me and Grandaddy sat waitin in the truck. Right next door to the grocery store was the Post Office. It had a truck ramp in back where they unloaded the mail trucks. It was lunch time, and bein right down the street from the highschool, there were some highschool kids eatin their sack lunch there on the edge of that ramp. This lil puppy....and I do mean little little, kept pesterin them for a bite to eat. They'd set her down on the ground, and she'd runnnnnnnn to the end of the ramp and run up to where they were sittin again. We watched this for a few minutes. Then Grandaddy said...."you stay right here in the truck, I'll be right back" Well he went over to the kids and asked them if it was their puppy. They said, "No" and that they didn't know who's it was. So he gathered her up. A little blonde thing, and brought her back to the truck. He said, "Now, Grandma won't let us take it home. But if she don't know about it, till we get home..... :D " So he proceeded to stick the dog behind the seat of the old 1963 Ford. Grandma came out with her groceries shortly there after. And off we went towards home. It wasn't but a block or two, when this lil tiny pup came crawlin out from under the seat......I was  :o :D and said, "Grandma, can we keep her?" She said....."Well looks like we already are keepin her." Pee Wee, was my dog..that lived at Grandma's and Grandaddy's house until I was a Freshman in highschool.

Thanks Peg for postin this story, it brought back lots of memories for me. Even tho your story was totally different than mine.......it was great.

We have a cat from the post office. She was found there walking around making friends, and smelling like used oil. We figure she rode to town in the motor of a truck. We got her spayed, (since I got a deal due to working at a vet clinic), and took her home. She's been here 10 years now, and is one of my prime mousers. :D :D :D

The dog had a reflective collor on,but no tags! No tatoo,no id at all..Happy ending, but would have been simpler if she had tags.. Wonder where they got her--I'd love to have one like her :)

We had some folks stop in one day, all upset because their little dog had gone missing from their camp site, and they had searched and called for the dog to no avail. We figured it was a coyote snack for sure but said we'd keep an eye out for it. About a week later our son went into the back part of the shop for something, and here was this little dog hiding along the wall by some buckets. The cats are fed at the shop so I guess he had found a spot he could survive and was getting by on a bit of cat food daily. The folks were pretty happy to get their little mutt back, but not one bit happier than the dog was to see them!

I grew up with an English shepherd. He went missing for a few days and we didn't know what had happened. One day our neighbor drove up with the dog in the back of his pick-up. Neighbor had been inside the local burger joint having lunch and came out to find Chico loaded in the back of his pick-up! I guess Chico figured it was a quick way to hitch a ride home!

I'm glad that GSD found her way home!
