I know with just 18 cows, 18 calves, 6 new heifers and a bull - - - I an not a rancher by any means and I can get by with things not practical on a large scale - - - but this is what I use for external parasites.
The rate is supposed to be 1/2 oz in 3 gallons of water for application to the animals and up to 8 oz in 5 gallons for spraying the buildings. I used to mix with diesel fuel but that is no longer approved.
My cattle are in the habit of coming when called as I will normally give them a square bale of hay - - - about 1 pound per head but they like the treat.
They have gotten a better treat this week as we have been harvesting sweet corn and freezing it - - - they love the shucks and cobs! Look it has been about a week since the last spray and almost fly free!
I can do a decent job with my backpack sprayer in the field with hay as bait but when the flies get real bad I bring them to the barn, lock the gate and made sure to use all 3 gallons walking back and forth thru them - - - they are dripping wet when I'm thru with 3 gallons but no flies for 10 days to 2 weeks. When in the field I cannot get their faces very well and do not get as good a result but can still slow the flies considerably!
The label says it helps with fleas and ticks on dogs and with lice on all animals so I'm sure it helps with lice but I have not used it just for lice as I never see signs of a problem. Possibly I am keeping ahead of the issue!
