Well, Mike, that is interesting and disturbing IF all the facts are known. The site lost me when they lodged their attack on conventionally produced food......you know, the food produced by most farmers and ranchers, which actually feeds the world.
Sure, 'organic' production is fine......for those few who actually do what they claim (and not saying those folks don't, just that there are big loopholes in the claims by some producers), but what are the rest of the consumers going to eat if they believe the claims against most of us, yet can't afford the 'organic' food????
When someone starts shouting that non-organic producers all abuse animals and the land and are only interested in 'profit' (as if that is a dirty word!) it makes me very suspicious of their real motive!
Totally ignored is the fact that rules for treating ag products are to remove harmful, nearly universal germs which HAVE caused health problems, not just to cause harm to small producers, or make it easier for large producers to out sell the small ones.
And I do support consumers right to buy untreated products if they know the consequences and are willing to live with consequences rather than ask government for help if they get 'burned'.
I also support the right of farmers/ranchers to sell their product as harvested under state rules, and not go through commercial grocery stores. My problems are mainly with those who denigrate their neighbors methods in order to charge exhorbitant prices for their own, calling it the ONLY safe production method, yet often denying the need for testing and inspections.
If you have a truly superior product, you DO NOT need to run down all other products of the same type to sell your own!
