A bunk line filled with calves

The bull calves across the feed alley

Since the bunk was getting crowded we sorted off 50 of the light end and put them in the coulee where they don't have as much competition for feed.

The bulls strung out coming for a treat. They had been roughing it in the hills until a couple weeks ago.

Not a great pic but these two aren't like the rest.

The rest,

The orange tags are the second calvers I picked up in December, The rest are just a few cows kept around after rechecking a questionable preg checking job. The rest of the herd is in the hills looking after themselves.

good looking operation. as Soap mentioned, impressive hay stack. :D

Thanks, As Gcreek mentioned it took about three years to collect it up. :D

either way, it looks good and it has to be a good feeling having that amount of feed on hand, so i've heard anyways…i wouldn't know :?

Curious if the two that aren't like the rest looked any different to you coming out of the hills?

They weren't much different in condition then most of the Angus bulls. Most of my home raised bulls are pretty adapted to my management and environment. The bull in the poorest shape is a "Calving ease" bull from a Montana breeder. I didn't care for his daddy and I guess i should have known i wouldn't like him.

For those that are wondering, the 2 different bulls are Welsh Black. Their heads aren't Angus heads but they are adapting to ranch life and i am looking forward to the first calves in April.

Ah hah. Welsh Blacks. How do they differ from Irish Blacks that I was asking about on another thread?

The Irish Blacks are just a lil more western . . .

Very nice! I enjoyed all those critters, the impressive storage of hay and the neat wind break fence! Posting photos of having more bulls than I have cows is making me look bad... :D

What's in the bunks? You suggested earlier you feed whole corn. How is that working out?

I put hay in with the processor and run a pass of corn from the hopper tank on the bale deck truck. The calves back the coulee get a pass of corn in those troughs. Didn't take long for them to catch on.

How old are those two welsh blacks? Always heard they have real good feet and legs, long-lived. Curious what your intent is with them... Infuse it in cows or just vigor? Did you raise them? Sorry for so many questions just sounds interesting.

They are coming 2 and 3. They are PB'sI got up near regina. I used them on my second calvers. Hoping to get some cows out of them. Just looking for the good feet and legs and longevity. :D The hardiness won't hurt either. :-)
