Hey, FH----hubby is heading to Deer Lodge today for the Jacobson family ranch auction!! Did you know Bud and the family??? I went to high school (graduated a year or two before) with Terri! Anyway, the flyer I am looking at says the ranch has been sold after 4 generations in the family and they are auctioning everything else!!  Lots of good equipment, though, so hubby is going to see what he can get and maybe meet up with the Johns family and possibly the Applegates!! If he sees them, he has ORDERS to give all our regards!

Yes, I knew the Jacobson's. Bud was a fine old fella. Mike Johns who married Lori is our accountant. I knew the ranch, which is really more of a farm, was for sale. Didn't know about the auction sale, however.

I can't remember the reason they were selling it as the one son did stay on the place. They used to raise potatoes and Simmental cattle.

I hope cowboyup says hello for us as well. The Applegates were our neighbors and Allen Johns was always one of our favorite people.

just talked to the hubby and he says that in all the auctions he has been to in his life, he has NEVER seen so many people....stuff is selling at pretty high prices and he has been outbid on the few things he really needed!! Guess the place sold to the Kline (or is it "Cline") family....hubby spoke with them at good length! So far, no sign of allen or stephanie, yet, though!!

Thanks for the info. Did you mean the ranch sold at auction today? Or was it everything else that sold?

Jesse says the ranch had sold recently and the jacobsons were simply liquidating all of their belongings and equiptment!! Lots of equiptment, tractors, haying equip., augers and lots and lots of furniture! He bid on a Cadillac, but was outbid!!   Outbid on his auger, too!! gotta love auctions...ya meet some pretty interesting folks there!

Auctions................a farmers social event

You can say that again!! If ya don't see 'em at church, at the cafe at 5 in the morning having coffee, then you can catch them at the next auction!! The only time I remember seeing my dad cry (up until, that is, the day my mom died) was when we went back to North Dakota and watch their family farm and all the equiptment go on the auction block!! I was only about 11 and I was simply STUNNED to see that man sit there with tears rolling down his cheek while he watched his childhood home go to the highest bidder!

Auctions the "stuff" my father drags home that will one day be on his auction cause it sat by the shop forever. Like e-bay ranch style.

Maybe I am getting older but every time I hear about a farm ~ranch~family home going to auction my heart breaks a little.

agreed!!!! The Jacobson family had and still has, the support of the community that they supported for 4 generations and the hubby says that the number of folks at the auction (JUST FOR SUPPORT) was astounding!
