Cowboyup took his first "day off" in several months.......well........sorta!! He ONLY had to change a few irrigation dams and when we got home, we found out that we had "several" cows out on the road north of the home place...took awhile to get them back where they belonged since all we had was the pick-up, 3 small boys and me in my flipflops!!  If the batteries in my camera had not died, I would have some HILARIOUS pix of the "round up" to share with you....as it is, I only had enough battery juice to get some of the drive in the mountains!! What a way to spend a beautiful day!!

the older boys (flint and a buddy) playing Lewis and Clark!!

miles and miles of no houses.......perfect!! except for, of course, the haze from all the surrounding fires!!

DSCN3691.jpg

teaching the boys how to roll rocks down the steep slopes...without ending up at the bottom of the hill!!

gazing across the miles and miles of wilderness!!

pretty wildflowers with a tiny little butterfly riding on top

feeling like they are on top of the world!!

lost in thought......let's just hope he gets "found" real soon!!

still had a while to go before we hit the highest elevation!!! breath-taking up here...in more ways than one....the air gets a little thin!!

anyone know what these berries are??? found several bushes of them at the very top of the range!!

well...also saw a bull moose (that I thought was GINORMOUS and cowboy said was a "baby"), a black bear (that I thought was a baby and cowboy said was 2-3 years old) and several mule deer and lots of antelope!! Stopped at the west fork of the madison river and let the boys fish and cool off in the icy waters!! SUPER day...need to have more of them, but you all know how that is!!!

only after I submitted them did I realize that I had forgotten the Img button.....ooops!!!!! went back and got them fixed....I hope!! thanks, IlRancher!!!

Those berries look like what we call "Poke Berries" on a "Pokeweed".

If they are, they're pizen.

Great pics!

"PIZEN"????!!!!!!
guess it's a good thing that we did not let those 3 hungry little boys eat 'em!!! :D

poke leaves around here are smooth edged, but poke salat is darn good, you can also peel the stems and flour and fry them best stuff you ever ate.kind of a cross between asperigus and fried green maters!! :D :D

found the picture of the bull moose....not really zoomed in well, but you get the idea!!!

this is a more wide-angeled shot of the berry bush we found...serrated leaves and large bunches of dark purple "berries"!!!

Berries look a lot like ours here but on the wide shot, not so much.. That being said, we do have a plant here that resembles that and I have never figured out what it is... Almost reminds me of the elder berry bushes in the nursery catalogs my wife is always looking at.

The berries look like chokecherrys but the tree sure doesn't look like our chockcherry trees.

Looks like a real great day ranchwife, and sharin it with them boys how lucky can one get.... :)

That Cowboyup guy, isn't he a celebrity of some sort?

Good Lord, I am almost scared to ask!!! Course, when he's singing in the shower, he will tell you that "Nashville has been calling for years, but I choose to stay here and take care of you and the boys!!"

The berries look like elderberries to me. Mom used to make elderberry jam and you can also make elderberry wine with them!!!

I think your right-- leaves aren't right for chokecherries......

With that many berries on them- think of the wine Cowboyup could make....
