FINALLY the weather has improved, and I've been able to get caught up on a few projects.
We FINALLY got the late calves branded and turned out. Here is my boss branding. We used the table, and the two of us did the handful of calves smoothly.
I FINALLY figured out a trick... line the calf table up with the squeeze chute, and fill the chute with 4-5 calves at a time. By opening the sides of the chute up, I could easily grab the next calf and shove it up into the table. I didn't get kicked once
.
Still get a handful of horns
Jail Bait
Still get a handful of red calves :?
Trailing the late calves out to pasture
I FINALLY moved the cows into a new pasture. Luckily it has some old feed left in it and so I can hopefully end daily feeding soon! I would like the grass to get a better start, and also keep the cows off of Larkspur though.
Straggling in for some breakfast this morning. You can see how hungry they look... especially the lead cow
. It is nice having old feed, and fewer cows to graze this spring... well until fall when I have fewer calves to sell
I FINALLY gathered bulls today and trailed them out of the timber so that I can hopefully find them easier for fertility testing tomorrow.
More coming out from hiding
. They usually like to head out this time of year and so brushing up isn't an issue. What sometimes becomes an issue is if they've been fighting, and one bull decides to hole up somewhere. Oh the joys of bull ownership
Always have to have a fight or two along the way
Lining out and behaving like gentlemen
I'll let you know if they manage to tear anything up tomorrow  .
