The fires we usually get around here are of the small kind although occasionally a bin dryer cashes on fire and it is awful hard to put out 100,000 bushels of corn contained in a steel oven. The field fires we get around here generllly are controlled with people dragging discs behind big tractors and just turning the ground over as most fires are in crop fields when the ditch burns escape in the spring... Last year we did have lots of grass fires closer to the quad cities but I would say less than 2000 total acres burned for the summer... Our big fears around here rest on the peat ground catching fire.. That is a pain in the butt, they had a dry swamp go up last year near here... That stinker burned for days..
