Anyone have experience with For-Most cattle handling equipment ? I would like to know the good and bad.

Thanks !

I have a for-most squeeze and head gate. I have the automatic head gate. I like them both fine. Big cows on the automatic head catch sometimes won't push through it after you release it unless you use a hot-shot. The head catch isn't big enough to catch a bull. I have a palp cage behind mine and it's nice and long. I like it better than most I've seen. The squeeze works well and both sides open if you need to do that. The branding gates swing and I like that better than drop type. You don't have anything to bump your head on . They have slots to slide a bar behind them that are nice. All in all they're pretty nice. Not the very best but they are a good chute for the money. Stampeed steel or silencer are heavier.

We have a Fromost.. one of the smaller ones they make. .. We only own half of it as we bought the headgate and the neighbor owns the chute but it is our back up chute and we do like it for calves as it is smaller than our Stronghold.. MOst of the vets that have chutes have formosts around here but I can't tell you why for sure....

The olny bad I would say is that on the model we have the back locking gate mech kind of stinks.. now, this chute is 10 years old probably so they might have changed it but nevertheless the gate doesn't lock as well as I would like it too... On the otherside of that the strongold locks to well and is a pain in the rear to pull up all day. Had to use the Formoast most of a year this year as we did something to our headgate that I should be fixing right now but it can wait.

I have an older one as well but mine's pretty big. The new ones have a real nice tail gate. They open and close with a handle and it's a split tailgate that opens like an elevator door.

We got one a couple years ago. I got both the manual and automatic head catch. First year I used the manual one it about killed my arm, but they never backed up and went right out. Also the manual headgate works wonderful for doctoring or eartaggin larger animals. Sure immobilizes them.
I've been using the automatic head gate for testing since. Then use a hot shot lightly if they don't go forwards. I also added a longer release bar going to the automatic headgate, so the tester don't have to reach as far. It's got the palp cage also. We tested 340 range cows in just 3 hours with one a couple of weeks ago and never missed a cow. It sure does everything we need it to do.

I recently bought a set of digital scales. The company was good to work with on a mail order basis. The product works great so far. I sure wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.

I bought a new formost three years ago with the automatic headcatch with palp cage. I special ordered mine with a bi-fold tailgate. This works very well and I almost never get two cows in the chute at once like alot of other chutes with a taligate that slides up. The branding doors work very well for heifers and yearling bulls but can be tough to use on cows or bigger animals. The headcatch also works better for smaller animals as the headcatch seems to be shorter than most.

I really like the chute, there are features that I really like compared to just one or two that I dont like. I dont believe there is such a thing as the perfect chute. As long as your happy with it is all that matters.

Stampede are nice but cows can kick over the pole-Hi-Hog and Pearson are good chutes too. Morand's are the worst by far. But you know me I can A'I' them at the end of a 40' lariet lol so not too fussy.
