This is the rockpicker used after the rocks are windrowed. Meant to take photos of the smaller rake the day I used it but the camera batteries were dead when I got to the field. Have a short video downloading that I will post on another thread.

When we get them all picked we will be 1000 ft lower elevation, have a more favourable growing season, and be able to open a ski resort with the mountain of accumulated rocks
 
Thank Global Warming for all those rocks that dropped out of the glaciers as they receeded.....oh about 10k yrs ago +/- :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
My aunt and uncle that live in Canada every year do rock picking. My understanding of where they live is they grow rocks (my interpretation). You pick them up each spring to just pick up more the next year.
 
hey dave that rockpicker looks similar to the degelman.but with improvements.i like the slotted flooron the basket.and the pivoting hitch would be nice to have.how often do you break the apron chains ?
 
As many rocks as we have I'm not sure why there aren't many of those around here. We have a new crop every year too! We use the manual variety of rockpicker :???: Maybe why both of our backs hurt?

Your field does look good...what are you planting?
 
Half a day a year will pick all my rocks with 2 people. Having said that, can't find 2 willing people so a neighbour and I bought a rock picker together. Our late seventies dad's are in charge of the picking job now. :wink:

Yep, you got to love how easy a lot of things are in Canada. Where I grew up gathering an 8 acre field was a 4 or 5 day job for 2 people and you weren't slacking either. Funny how you guys call everything rocks. The little things in gcranch's pictures were what we would call "chuckies" ie small enough to be thrown (chucked)- generally not worth picking. Stones are bigger - takes two hands or sometimes two men to lift them, rocks are the fixtures - the things of garden shed size mainly buried with the top protruding. We had so many stones my Dad used to say you could hear the ground rattling when the grass started to grow.

That's funny. So I don't really have rocks in my head then, just chuckies. :lol: Generally not worth picking. :???:
 
That is a good looking rockpicker gcreek. We don't have one anymore. We generally pick the big ones by hand now as there seems to be less of them than there used to be, and the rest we push back down where the came from with the help of a land roller. Out of sight out of mind is the theory :wink:

We roll this ground after seeding and push the little "chuckies" back down too. :D
 
I'll be darn....you could almost dig potatoes with that. Almost wish we had some rocks now. :-) We were out back in Menards in Rapid City a few days ago. They were selling rocks like that.....for like a dollar something!! Thanks for the pics.
 
If you were with in about 30 miles of me I would remove your piles for free then run them thru my rock crusher and sell the crushed product ! I have made several dollars like that.

I have also charged by the hour to take my crusher and a loader to a pile and crush the rocks ( under 20" ) down to 2" and under and leave so the farmer can use them himself.
