It looks as though the weather for western Canada goes from bad to worse through the week.
I will wait until Friday and then make a decision whether to cancel my pilgrimage to Edmonton or not.

-20C with a little breeze here this AM. A few snowflakes in the air also.

A balmy -20C here today, with just a touch of new snow (24 inches or so). We are officially feeding calves, although they are still supplemental grazing.
Young herd is grazing stockpiled, but will move to swaths at the end of the week/first part of next week.
Older cows are 6 miles away, and we may wind up feeding them while we wait for a break in the weather to bring them home. Horse only job as an atv won't even get there. We will trailer the horses as close as possible, ride the 2 miles in and hopefully find and push 75+ cows across the creek, up the coullee and 6 miles home. Might even go tomorrow if the weather looks a bit decent. It is a great way to get miles on young horses, and frostbite on old ears...

Not an enviable job this week RSL, when it's supposed to dip into the low -20's. Although a bad day on a horse beats anyday in an office, or on a rig, on the pipeline, in a truck.

I'm almost thinking I'd rather have our cows on stockpiled right now. The snow in the swath grazing fields is a little hard, and now 2' deep or more. You know what stockpiled is like - as long as there was grass to hold it, the snow stays loose and fluffy. I went out to one stockpiled pasture yesterday and walked through snow mid-thigh, that was loose and fluffy all the way to the ground.

Brrrrrrrr! BMR, do you have to leave the cabinet door under the sink open so the plumbing doesn't freeze? I do when it gets cold but have never had a problem. I try to run some water every once in a while if I think about it.

Used to have to do that when we lived in a mobile home. We also had a blow dryer installed under the water heater to thaw out one line that always froze. This house is pretty good as it has foot thick walls of concrete inside of foam blocks.

You just make sure you got your back to the wind or frost bite can set in pretty fast. :o

A Saskatchewan farmer and his wife, on their way back home in January, are at the airport in New York awaiting their flight. They are dressed in heavy boots, parka, scarf, mittens, etc.. An older couple standing nearby is intrigued by their manner of dress.

The wife says to the husband: "Look at that couple. I wonder where they're from."

He replies: "How would I know?"

She counters: "You could go and ask them."

He says: "I don't really care. You want to know, you go and ask them."

She decides to do just that and walks over to the couple and asks, "Excuse me. Looking at your dress, I wondered where you're from.."

The farmer replies: " Saskatoon, Saskatchewan".

The woman returns to her husband who asks: "So, where are they from?"

She replies: "I don't know. They don't speak English"

Mid 20's (F) right now in the Des Moines, IA metro with a fresh 5 inches of snow on the ground with more snow on the way as the back edge of the storm is just hitting the Omaha area and the winds will be picking up by tomorrow night.
