"Get in the freaking ark!"

Help Support Ranchers.net:

Soooo......packers investment in fake meat of different levels.....and being on the same team with them with a minimum of fuss is a good thing. One big happy ark. Group hug. If only they'd work on their fire suppression.

Is OCM/HSUS really joined at the hip? I don't know but I have extreme doubts that it's anything like some make it out to be.....obviously don't want them on the ark.

Is the National Wildlife Federation on the ark? I'm sure that NCBA partner is really pulling for us.

It's been reported that there is a large culling going on in Australia right now, with the main destination being the US...which is doing a lot to depress our cull market. Of course if the end result is burger that tastes like a crappy "all natural" burger from Hardees is the end result....consumers will just think it's from US cattle. Very clever. Thank goodness we don't have COOL.

I don't think the packers are our friends but we work together so it should be the government oversight to ensure open completive markets, did we as cattlemen think we were getting the leg up on our competition by contracting cattle. Where did that get us.
Should the USDA inspection system treat all meat with the same regard for safety?

I'm thinking there are problems with the USDA inspection system. We all remember well the JBS scandal. Are the meats coming into this country sufficiently inspected or just hit or miss, and stamped, considering there is evidence of shortcomings just inspecting what's domestically raised. Pushback against disclosure seems suspect as hell. As far as the the adversity to competitive market, yes, some change in oversight is needed.

Also disappointing that those entrusted with our checkoff dollars haven't done something more (if at all) significant and recognizable to our targeted consumers about the whole "impossible" scenario. Some interesting things written that producers will read, but that's not what's most important.
