After fighting mud and cold for several years I kept the bull up till 20th of June last year so calves should start the 29th - - - a first calf heifer had a nice calf today and I have a few more looking close.

When you only have 18 each one is special!

But when you move almost 100 pups in a year they start blending in my mind - - - and I normally have them all reserved and picked up when they are 8 weeks old. A good pup will bring more money than a good grade weaned calf even if I precondition and hold them a month after working. Guess which one adds the most to the bottom line!

I wanted to raise Scotch Collies, and got a real nice female. She never did come in heat for some reason, and then the irrigator ran over her, so that deal didn't work--along with the fact we were heartbroken over what happened to her. What a nice dog she was.
I did raise Shelties for a few years. They are wonderful little dogs and she did bring in more than a calf did....plus she
was a fun little dog. Then we moved to the Powder River and we were really rural. Too hard to find a stud dog and
too far away to sell puppies at that time. When we sold one pup, later I had to go rescue him from a bad home. :? Raising dogs
isn't easy.

Dogs, just like any other thing are not easy! I have been raising these ( German Shepherds ) since 1972 and in all that time have only had to rescue one pup that I have sold. I feel part of it is that everyone that provides an email address gets put in a group that shares pictures and stories and I give long talks before a pup is sold. About once a week I will send a training tip and I am available if someone has a problem. I also highly encourage watching the "Dog Whisperer" and or purchasing one of his DVDs.

That sounds great. All those things weren't available way back when I was raising dogs in the early 70's. We tried to place the pups, and not just SELL them (same with horses) but we err'd on one buyer. I checked on the pups and found one in trouble. So I took care of it....that took the fun out of selling pups as we are dog lovers. Sounds like people are very lucky to get one of your pups, George. Good for you for all the follow-up.

The pup I saved went on to save the life of the man who wound up with the pup....or he thought she did...anyway, she wound up with a wonderful home. Like Soapweed says, "all's well, that ends well." :D

The dog I rescued I spent 4 months rehabilitating and he now has a great home in Nashville Tenn.

I have rehabilitated several other dogs over the years that were brought to me. It is amassing how quickly they can be made into a great pet but if the owners don't change their ways the dog will go right back. As Cesar Malone says you can rehabilitate the dog but it is much harder training the people!
